"Scary Interest" in USC S/LB Su'a Cravens

PLEASE. My favorite trojan.  His instincts are crazy. He is a first round caliber player but people will look too much into his measurables which will cause him to fall. Late 2nd round he would be a steal.

As a Duck I hate almost all things USC but I dont hate Cravens. Kid is a beast. I've seen comparisons to Taylor Mays which is dumb. Cravens has more football instincts in his little finger.

He's got a great highlight reel, but I just don't see us taking him in the first round - or even the early second.

Cravens is a much less athletic version of Shaq Thompson.  I don't overly dislike Cravens as a prospect - there is certainly a place for him in the NFL, and he could definitely fill Harper's role at SS in Carolina's defense - but we could barely get Shaq onto the field last year.  I'd much rather see us use Shaq at SS until TD retires (which is hopefully 4+ years from now) than spend a premium pick on a slower, less agile guy with the same size and skillset.

If we hadn't picked Shaq last year, I'd understand this projection.

Problem with this is Shaq has been committed to LB and they view him as only playing LB. Yes Shaq is versatile and would do anything asked of him, but both him and the team want him exclusively at LB.  But the team views su'a as the opposite a SS, yes he is versatile but they want him as a safety.  Some view Su'a and Shaq on the same defense a problem since there similar prospects but I think it's insane because of how versatile and dynamic it makes a defense. And as crazy as it is to say with Luke and TD already on the field, Shaq and Su'a may have a better nose for the ball and be around more plays which is crazy to imagine. And Su'a looks to have the best ball skills then any of them with the ball in the air picking it off.

I think DG's interest in Craven and Kearse goes to defending the TE position. Craven would be a good defender against most TE in the league and DG's interest in Kearse would be more for TE's like Gronk and Bennett.

Remember Kelvin Benjamin?

KB blew off one workout. Sua isn't scheduling them at all. Different situations.

Assuming it's only the on-campus workouts he's not doing and not visits to team facilities then it probably shouldn't be too big of a deal since the workouts are mostly the same thing as pro day field drills. I'm sure some teams will ding him for this, but I have no clue if the Panthers will.

He also said recently that he prefers to play safety rather than LB but will do what's asked by the team that drafts him.

This has a similar feeling to KB and Shaq.  People thinking they're more R2 material, create lively discussion, I dunno, it just has that itch.

Watch this kid end up being our first pick.  In DG I trust haha.

Turning down private workouts tends to make me think a player has gotten a guarantee from a team he wants to play for. Basically, a team (say the Panthers here) told him we're taking you in the 1st...shut down all other workouts so another team doesn't decide they want you before us.

Not saying that's what's happened with him and a mystery team...but just what makes sense to me in explaining why a player basically on job interviews, cancels all interviews.

Edit...he obviously still has actual interviews with teams set up. But not showing them what he does in a workout, it could be hard to raise his stock. Again, just spitballing potential reasons...not saying I believe it's the case.
