49ers favorites to sign Josh Norman

Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson reports the 49ers are "expected to be the early front-runner" for free agent CB Josh Norman.

The 49ers have been one of the main teams linked to Norman in his first seven hours of free agency. According to Robinson, the Jaguars also "have interest." Jacksonville and San Francisco are currently Nos. 1 and 2 in cap space, with each having over $50 million available under the cap. It'll come in handy if this becomes a bidding war, which it very likely will. Per ESPN 49ers reporter Paul Gutierrez, Norman is "intrigued" by the idea of playing in California.

You know, all the times I've said "no team would pay a near 30 year old CB 16mil'

I forget about the GM that ran the best HC out of the NFL because he might've been "too mean."

Whatever. HAVE FUN PLAYING FOR CHIP JOSH, ASK BYRON MAXWELL HOW THAT WENT

Why would any player that is chasing money sign with San Fran? Taxes will kill his him w/ a 12.3% state income tax rate. Throw in the fact they have a terrible defense. JNo will lose it mentally playing for Kelly and a terrible team. He will never play out his contract. This has ugliness all over it. San Fran is one of the worst landing spots for him as a player. he is also proving he wants money and not a ring.

Jax is the toilet bowl of coastal Florida cities.

Plus you're taxed in the states you play home and road so the hit isn't as devastating as perceived

Give me the Bay Area 8 days a week. #Cioppino4life

Josh is from Greenwood and went to school in Conway.  He hasn't a clue what a disaster the Bay Area would be for him. Jax is a much better fit for him.

    • Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.
    • 13. Carolina is coming. The Panthers are well thought of around the league. Their "process" seems sound. I think their off-season will be very interesting to keep an eye on. They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion. No one told me that.) https://x.com/lindsay_rhodes/status/2027212533417869499?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
