Norman was not a production of a system

Where was this system for Cason and Florence? where was the system when Bene was getting burned last season? 

 

No one has All-22 and watches game film? The secondary was built around Norman, Harper was able to play the box and Coleman was able to cheat to the opposite side of Norman which made are our secondary one of the best. But now he's a system player?

Our pass rush was horrendous the first half of the season, we went 11 quarters quarters without a legit sack for a stretch of the season. So how exactly was Norman benefiting from the front 4? We blitzed more last season than any season in the last 5 years and the main reason was cause pass rush was so poor. And when we blitzed we left Norman on a island alone usually with the best receiver.

 

I don't think people understand how hard it is to find a CB of Norman's caliber, pass rushers are a dime of dozen. There about 3 corners in the entire NFL that have lock down ability.

 

The offenses is gonna have to bring it up another notch next season, cause I don't know what this defense is gonna do when we face a top tier offense.

That is why he was a starting caliber CB form the moment he got here.

He didn't start becoming good until he bought into the SYSTEM that we installed.    While Norman is a good CB maybe even a great one.  To say a portion of his success wasn't due to our system is ludicrous.

Remember he was a rebel for about 2 1/2 years of his tenure with the Panthers.

Great post and I completely agree, this reminds me of when let smItty go and then we drafted KB. Bene is good but I don't think they are counting on him to be a number one corner, boykins role wil be in the slot and its just a one year deal. I'm sure gettleman has a plan, FA is slim pickings so I'm betting on the draft. I'm anxious to see what happens.

The defense is going to give up a lot of points against the top offensive teams, and it's going to be up to Superman to make this team successful. If he keeps playing at a high level then we can probably have another winning season without Norman.

I'm not going to press the panic button because RR and Gettleman don't even look slightly concerned. They look perfectly content with their decision, and have not said anything indicating regret or worry. So be it. The talent level of this team, which wasn't exactly sky high to begin with, just had a major drop. So buck up Cam. Keep diving into that end zone and make this work. Fly... flllyyy!

Of course he wasn't starting caliber when he got here, the transition from college to NFL as a corner back might be the hardest in all of football (not counting QB) so people thinking a rookie can come in a replace him are out of their minds. Plus he was a 5th round pick, he's wasn't gonna start either way.

 

Like I said show/tell me the system that benefited him, cause it sure as hell wasn't our piss poor pass rush. Norman helped the pass rush more than our pass rush helped him.

That's debatable. 

His interception against Tampa is a prime example.  Josh knew he had help behind him and was able to jump the route.  If I remember correctly this was one of the videos Panthers.com had on under Self Scout.

Yes, I agree it is one of the more difficult positions to transition from but it wasn't skill that held him back.  It was his stubbornness to adapt to the scheme.   He kept wanting to do what the hell he wanted.  (ie the Buffalo game he lost for us) If he had stayed with his assignment than he would have probably been in position to intercept or at least deflect Johnson's TD catch.

Like I said before.   Top Talent no doubt but a good scheme also contributed to his success.

Florence played like a top 10 CB, and Cason who is utter garbage and couldn't start for any nfl team had six turnovers in what, ten games? Josh is a lean, athletic zone corner, he is better than Florence and Cason, obviously, but he is not on the level of a Trufant, Peterson, or CH25.

There is no system in play here, just good coaching and ultimately excellent execution by Norman once he finally began to listen and gained moe experience.

It's really a testament to Norman, and our coaches. It's a success story of sorts that was destined to end in divorce

Norman is the best in the business at jumping routes and reading the QB eyes.

You bring the bills game as he's the sole purpose when if I remember Luke had PI to keep the drive going and get them in field position

With no pass rush, Norman and the LBs were the scheme

Florence top 10 in what universe? He got benched mid season and cut the following

 

Peterson? LOL oh good god. Now Chris Harris you can argue is part of a system, Harris also switches with Talib a lot. Don't make me post the Antonio Brown game.

 

I would take Norman over all them in a heartbeat

      Dennis Rodman’s son lands Summer League shot with the Hornets   The Charlotte Hornets are coming off a promising 2025 NBA Draft class and will enter Summer League with no shortage of new faces looking to make an impression. But the most interesting addition didn’t come from the draft board. Instead, it’s DJ Rodman — the 24-year-old son of Hall of Famer and five-time NBA champion Dennis Rodman — who’s bringing some extra attention to the Hornets’ Summer League roster. Rodman played four years at Washington State before making the move to USC for his final season.  He wasn’t exactly lighting it up with the Trojans, putting up about 6 points, four boards, and an assist each game. But he did shoot well — hitting around 41% from the field and draining 36% of his three-pointers.  Standing 6-foot-6, he’s got the size to play on the wing and offers some versatility, which could be just what the Hornets are looking for as they try to fill out their roster. The Hornets’ Summer League squad already has plenty of fresh faces with this year’s draft picks and young guys fighting for a role. But Rodman’s last name alone is enough to turn heads, and now he’ll get his shot to prove he belongs once the games tip off in Vegas. Charlotte’s Summer League team is already drawing interest with recent draft picks and young players hoping to crack the rotation. But Rodman’s last name — and his potential to bring energy and toughness — adds another layer of intrigue. What Rodman lacks in college stats, he makes up for with hustle and competitiveness — traits his dad was known for throughout his Hall of Fame career. If he can bring that same energy and show growth in Summer League, he could carve out a role and surprise some people.       Question to the posters on this thread because you are knowledgeable--I love watching and pull for the Canes, but I never played so I don't have the understanding I had when I played football then watched it.  Having said that, Do you think we are weak at Center?  I see the team to be pretty strong on the wings, promising defense, and weak at Goalie.  It would be ideal if the Canes had 1 more position to upgrade, not 2.  I don't think you can count on Anderson to play a full season and he is 35.  However, are we solid at Center in your view?
