Hopefully a desirable QB falls to 30 so we can trade down....

With the Broncos!!!!

How perfect of a situation would that be?

A QB falls to 30 that not only they want, but other teams do as well, and we know Gettleman doesn't like to give up that 5th year option, so he bluffs making a deal with someone else to force the Broncos to swap spots with us and pick up maybe a 3rd round pick or maybe even a 2nd in next years draft.

We can still draft whoever we would at 30, keep the 5th year option, and add a valuable pick at the same time.

That would be my ideal situation for the draft to play out, anyone else on board with this?

Wed actually have to have a deal in place with somebody else for this work. Denver would no doubt ask them about it.

Not necessarily, all it takes is for us to talk about it with a few teams, Denver will hear about the talks and look to make a move before we can "finalize" anything with them.

I don't think we'd make any of those moves to move out of the first unless we got a crazy deal for it, but the threat would be all that's needed for Denver to explore a swap with us.

I wouldn't be mad about it.  If a team covets a guy like Lynch or Cook and is afraid Denver will take him then they may be willing to give up well above market value to leapfrog the Broncos. The Broncos know this and they may be willing to do the same to ensure someone else doesn't do exactly that.  The Broncos would have the upper hand in negotiations with us because we all know Dave loves his 5th year option.

Think I'd rather see a bunch of Quarterbacks go ahead of us, thus pushing better talent down at other positions.

I guess it's a decent alternative though. Either you secure a guy who fell because of a QB run, or if the run never happens and your top targets are gone you have the trade back option.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
