Your biggest concern going into the season?

Ruff

My real concern is Cam Newton. He was beatup alot in the last game of the year and played his worse game. I am afraid he will be like Maverick in Top Gun after goose got killed, gun shy and questioning every move.

I want Cam is be the Cam on the field we know and love, like Maverick was before his goose got cooked.

Ealy not being superbowl performance Ealy, but the lesser early season performance Ealy.

We can't afford another one of his slow starts.

Great point Ealy does take a lil while to get going but so does CJ and that just makea it worse. That's why our DTS are so important because they will make it easier. And people wanted to draft a raw rookie DE,  I think Butler was a good pick for our situation.

The Saints and Falcons learned ways to move the ball on us during last season. They nickeled and dimed us with 3 step drop 5 yard slants and short passes. Effectively, neutralizing our edge rush.

How do we counter this? Whats the quickest way to the QB? a middle rush. How do you stop slants and shorter digs? With long armed big corners. So, I believe getting a top tier DT was great and taking the 2 bigger corners is going to help.

I'm concerned that we are almost identical to what we were last year in almost every regard. If we had bolstered some of the areas we were weak, it'd be more palatable. But we regressed at CB and that's pretty much it.

we will be much better at WR.

Agreed, but we moved down at CB and stood pat at DE. Regardless, my concern is that we didn't add any fresh personnel that offer us anything new schematically. Second TE, gadget player, rush linebacker, anything that allowed us to evolve from what we were last year.

My biggest fear is losing our season opener in a fashion much like the Super Bowl. Then watch Cam get sacked like it's 2014 all over again every week because our other opponents attack us the same way and we're too stubborn to adjust our offense to compensate. I'm also wary about Stewart holding up for another season and whether those behind him can feasibly replace his production.

Defensively, if the offense sputters off the gate, our young secondary is going to get a trial by fire.

Now that the Draft is over and we've picked up our UDFAs, there are still some shaky areas on the team. What's your biggest concern heading into the season, assuming we head into this season with what we have now.

For me, I'd say the biggest concern is Safety, followed closely by Punter. I'm still not convinced that Tre Boston is the best we can do in the defensive backfield. Often times last season he appeared to be out of place and trailing behind his guy (though, his athleticism was definitely an upgrade over Roman Harper). If we could sign Donte Whitner, that would be amazing. He would add that "4th LB", bringing a hard-hitting, run-stuffing Safety onto our team, and letting Coleman do what Coleman does.

Punter is... Scary. The Punter is such an incredibly important position, especially when we need to flip the field. Is our defense awesome? Obviously. But, we still need to be able to pin other teams deep, not give up huge returns because of messed up hangtime, and be able to accurately punt into corners. Nortman was... Below average, I would say. He was never the best, and was always slightly behind middle of the road. I don't know if Roadhouse Swayze is an upgrade over him, but, I hope he is. Finding a Punter can't be that hard, right? ... Right?

I agree with what was already said about Safety being fine with Boston & Coleman and the camp winners of rookie Cash, Marlowe, Ball, Robinson, Jones & Ras-l as depth.

Getts said he looked at the punters on offer in the draft/UDFA and didn't see anyone worth signing. It was the first thing he ever said that got me pissed off. I would have loved to have been able to get Tom Hacket, or Lac Edwards. (Huge homerism there)

Punter - duh
DE rotation - don't really like Delaire or Horton, Addison isn't a 3 down guy... don't really want to rely on Arthur Miley or Rakim Cox if someone gets hurt
Interior OL depth - Velasco, Amini, Scott >>> Scott, Gradkowski
CB - McClain kinda sucks and not sure how quickly the rookies could get thrown out there to start against guys like Julio, Evans, Jackson, Cooks, Snead, Diggs, Treadwell, Thomas, Sanders, who we all face in the first 6 games...
SS - Not sure Tre Boston is ready to be a full-time starter there... he's only ever started at FS

Probably predicting 11-5 or 12-4.

I trust Getts on his evaluation of the kids coming through at DE. They haven't shown enough yet, but they've shown some and they've been in our system and they've kept working at it. For Ealy, Horton, Addison they have to take over this year, for Delaire, Cox and Miley they need to continue to show they're improving and start showing in games. But if Getts' is happy with them I'll go along with it.

OG depth is Scott, Yankey, Larsen, Dismukes. C depth is Gradkowski, Masifilo. Which COULD be a huge difference (Come on Yankey!), or could be EXACTLY the same as what you wrote (IOL depth = Scott, Gradkowski). We'll start to see in camp.

McClain's already gone in my mind. CB is Bene, Boykin and Bradberry/Worley/FA vet

Bene and Boston have to show up big this year. I feel like they will, they both had big years comparatively in 2014/15 season and had last year to grow behind vets.

That old man Harper still gets on the field

Impressive if he does. Uncle Rome isn't on our roster any more; we didn't pick up his contract.

To answer the question asked though, I think it's too early to be concerned. I want to see who else we sign and how the camp battles go before I get concerned. To be concerned now is to question Gettleman, and I'm not willing to blaspheme like that. But if I was a stinking blasphemer I think RT and OLine depth would be my biggest concern, followed by CB & DE. But I'm not.

I really dont have any....we could use some speed at WR maybe better depth at DE or a Vet at corner but those are minor issues compared to some other teams.

Without Josh Norman the Panthers will not be able to keep Julio Jones in check. Falcons will be able to roll out and pass all day on the Panthers. That's what happens when you have weak DEs and CBs that stretch the safeties (who are also suspect).

It will be bombs away on the Panthers D with jump balls for days from just about every team until the rookies prove they can play. Takes CBs about 3 years to get to a level capable of covering the best WRs in the league.

Offense better be ready to put up 40 points per game.
