Holy cow.  That makes 8 Tight Ends on the roster at this moment....

I know that there are two distinct TE roles...  receiving TE and a Richie Brockel type blocking TE... but still.... this is a surprise.

Dickson and Simonson are likely going to have trouble making the roster!

FYI, I believe we went into camp last year with 6 TEs on the roster.    Here's the list I saved last year.

Dickson, Ed
Olsen, Greg
Williams, Brandon
Brockel, Richie
Childers, Jamie
Simonson, Scott

I have to say, this is one of the most unpredictable offseasons so far for the Panthers...

When a bunch of us here were getting draft crushes on TE Hunter Henry it seemed like it could be a solid pick, and many of expressed a desire to get more depth behind Greg, begin developing a TE for the future.... and potentially upgrade from Dickson.

But did any of us foresee or predict this wholesale attention and commitment to upgrade a position that wasn't an obvious position of need?

This really excites me.  It's very clear Gettleman & our coaches aren't going to be happy to settle for a position group that is "good enough" but are relentlessly pursuing a plan to upgrade.   AWESOME.

He looked pretty good in camp last season.  I think he was one of the guys we were most sorry to cut if I recall comments from Ron or Dave...

Given that we claimed him off waivers, and we're 2nd to last on the waiver wire, it's clear he wasn't high on any other team's wish list....

    • From my what I have seen the overwhelming majority of people who are considering the notion a possibility don't really want to see it happen but are considering so for a number of reasons. Most importantly availability. Secondly even when he plays the last few seasons he has been red hot or ice cold. Then there is the subject of his defense which to say the least leaves a lot to be desired. Then there is the image of Ball inactive laughing it up on the sideline (while our team was getting the doors blown off) with previous busts who are now relegated to hanging on by a thread in the g league. I think we should be able to recognize with the team going out of their way to put a very strong emphasis on culture and leadership with the conclusion of this years draft that they expect LaMelo to lead the way this upcoming season and that begins with making significant strides and trending in a positive direction in the aforementioned aspects above. It just has to happen.
    • Ppl want to trade Melo? Am I wrong for thinking that would be a bad idea?
    • Some of you act like one can't learn from experience over time. Just because you may not know what you're doing in 2018 doesn't mean that you don't know what you're doing in 2025. Frankly, you grow from experience, and success and excellence gives first-time applicants the hand probably 99.999% of the time.
