Worst use of picks, Gilbert for 2 first rounders.

Thought of that.

To be fair, Gilbert was a decent player. Just not worth two first round picks.

Everette Brown, on the other hand, cost us a second and a first round pick and contributed a whole lot of nothing.

If you want to go that route, Ed Kugbila is the only option. No one mentions him because DG has been so good at roster building it hasn't mattered.

It was disappointing his only real contribution was being listed on IR but he was a 4th rounder. Expectations aren't as high.

Dwayne Jarrett has to be mentioned here somewhere.  May not be the worst but.....in the conversation.

Ah, Moose's purported successor. I believed I called him Lame Jarrett from the very start because USC receivers back in that time always flopped in the NFL.

I'd guess they chose Peter at least partly because he's the highest pick that's generally considered a bust, though I'd have to say Outlaw makes a good point regarding Everette Brown.

Using that framework though, and factoring in impact on the franchise, I think an argument can be made for Kerry Collins.

That 1st rounder ended up being 17th overall and the 49ers drafted Mike Iupati with it. Yeah, we definitely lost on that trade.

I considered Collins although he was part of a squad that made it to a NFC Championship game. It's... something positive, I suppose but his contribution to that is debatable.

For best picks, you probably shouldn't forget about Julius Peppers who completely terrorized opposing teams during his years here. Still a decent player, he was phenomenal here and may go down as one of the greatest defensive ends of all time.

Now how he left here... well that did sting a bit, but still, you've got to give the man his well-earned due.

Worst ever, value-wise would have to be Jeff Otah. Sooooo much potential and never reached.

I place Jeff Otah in the "draft teaser" category. After his first year, I would've expected Otah to be part of the starting lineup today, like with Kalil. Instead, injuries did him in.

Conversely, we have Keary Colbert. Boy, that first year had some promise. Then he was dropping passes like Ted Ginn but without the speed to make it worth the frustration, all while smiling. Kinda annoyed me.

Otah was a Pro Bowl caliber talent when in the field...a beast.  Probably one of the most dominating Ts we have ever had.

he couldn't stay on the field.  People also questioned his heart but you really can't hate on a guy because who wouldn't be overly foolish with his body.   He was a monster of a man with knee issues who wouldn't play hurt.

He wasn't bad in regards to talent.

And that leads only more weight to the level of disappointment. Some of these guys we've listed were over hyped, or frauds, or just nowhere capable of playing the big league game. Disappointing, yes, but not crushing. With Otah, he had it all, and then... gone... what could have been, what could have been.

As much as I love Cam, I gotta disagree that he is historically the Panthers best pick.

That choice easily goes to #89 in the 3rd round of the 2001 Draft IMO.

As to worst pick, well, Jason Peter is as good a choice as any I guess... lol.  Personally I'd go with Rashard Anderson.

Drafting a franchise QB will ALWAYS be the best pick in a franchise's history than any skill position regardless of who it is.

Gotta go with a lot of people here, Smitty in the 3rd round was the best pick in panthers history.  You are just hoping for a starter in the 3rd, what we got was a HOFer.

As for worst pick, Rae Carruth and there is no second.  I would rather that scumbag have never ended up in Charlotte, then maybe Cherica Adams would still be alive.  The fact that that worthless sack of poo is gonna get out of prison in a year and a half makes me sick.

It all depends on value at the pick. At number 1, Cam should be a franchise QB that carries this team. He is the best overall Panthers pick. Smitty is the best value pick. Borderline HoF because of the log jam at wr in the 3rd is a steal.

Worst use of picks, Gilbert for 2 first rounders.

The thing is Cam isn't any franchise qb- he's not a matt ryan or a kirk cousins. Yeah he did live up to his first pick hype of being a franchise qb but he's more than that.

If you are the #1 pick in the entire draft, then you are supposed to be good.

3rd rounder Smith, as has been said, has already had a pro bowl career.  Cam might take his place in another 5 years, but Smith has to be the man at this point.

Loser draft pick?  How many fingers can we use?  Carruth has to be it.  1st rounder goes to jail.  Tim B and Peter both battled injuries but did have a little production, not much, but a little

Lol stirs
