Comparing Luke to Brian Urlacher and Ray Lewis....

Via Twitter I happened to come across a link to the final entry in Today's Pigskin's listing of the top 25 players in the NFL who are 25 or younger.  Luke tops the list at #1

Yes, yet ANOTHER one of those offseason lists.  And naming Luke #1 is almost so predictable as to not be noteworthy, especially since this isn't exactly some kind of nationally important media outlet...

BUT, the article includes a few interesting stats about Luke, comparing him with other greats from the league, Brian Urlacher and Ray Lewis and those seemed worth a look:

Cornerback Charles “Peanut” Tillman played part of last season with Kuechly and when asked about him said he was on the same level “if not better” than future Pro Football Hall of Fame middle linebacker, and former teammate, Brian Urlacher.

Tillman likely didn’t want to say it out of politeness to Urlacher, but Kuechly is actually better. Much better.

Through four years (the amount of seasons Kuechly has completed in the NFL thus far) Urlacher had 508 tackles and six interceptions to Kuechly’s 620 tackles, 11 interceptions and five fumble recoveries.

And when compared to what many consider to be the standard at MLB in modern football history, Ray Lewis, Kuechly wins out again. At the four-year mark Lewis had 579 tackles to Kuechly’s 620, two forced fumbles to Kuechly’s four and four fewer interceptions, with seven to his 11.

 

 

Wow.    I was caught up last year in comparing Cam's 1st 5 season stats to Peyton, et al.   But Luke is in some pretty rarefied air at 25.

What say you Huddlers, what stats of Luke's impress you the most?  

We've been talking about Cam still having room to grow.  Yet Luke is even younger, and so (scary thought) he may still be able to improve - as we've seen him improve his coverage skills.

What goals / milestones would you like to see him reach in the 2016 season?

If Luke stays healthy for the next ten years  and stays a Panther (which I think he will) he will be my favorite Panther. 

At this moment, my favorite Panther is Dan Morgan. 25 tackles in the Super Bowl. But Luke might actually make me buy a jersey. I don't own any. He's a beast. My goal for him is to be the Super Bowl MVP in Super Bowl 51...

 

 

 

and 52, and 53, and 54...

yup every panther fan knows hes a great linebacker but by god those stats though. Thats crazy I never looked up his career stats before much less compared them to other great linebackers too thats insane. If he continues at his current rate of production or even increases it (maybe not even in his prime yet, could be even better in late 20s early 30s) then he's simply on pace for a hall of fame career.

I just hope we can win a Super Bowl or multiple ones with him that would be great.

Aw comeon. Share a little glory with Cam!  Give Luke one, TD one and Cam one...   then Luke can have a few more!

      You've got to constantly invest in the OL. The mantra pay tackles, draft guards/centers is true for a reason. Every 2 years we should be investing a round 2 or 3 pick in a starting guard unless we hit an all pro guy. Center, I lean more towards keeping the franchise guy than rotating him out as long as the price tag come contract time isn't insane. At least one day 3 pick needs to go to a guard or tackle every year churning the backup positions. Almost 18% of our team is OL. Investing at least 1 pick a year is just good business. That roster area needs to constantly be churning to try and keep low cost, highest possible quality talent.

      If you have watched Stroud the past couple of seasons, I think his confidence well has been leaking for some time now. If you look at his overall production it has decline year on year and he just doesn't look comfortable very often. Some of that is loss of OL but it's not like he is getting David Carr'ed. This is the lowest sack rate he has had in his NFL career. It's hard to explain the absolute meltdown he had coming into the postseason. I haven't really seen anything like that other than Jake's one game meltdown and Carson Palmer's wild 2015 two game meltdown(6 TO's against us alone). Both of those QB's didn't last long as NFL starters after that. Not sure what will happen with CJ but I do genuinely question if he is mentally shot. Young's mechanics are unfixable because he(and his team/QB trainer) don't agree with anyone else on his footwork issues. They believe he is doing what will be successful for him.
