Oh, so you just ignore the military part of it huh?  You're literally making excuses to make yourself make sense.  I hold myself to those standards, since I was in the Military.  Sorry, I'm not sorry you aren't impressed.  Let it go dude.

I gave the "hey look at me, I was in the military" part as much attention as it deserved.

I've got plenty of family that were in the military. None of them trade on it to try and make themselves look good or try to use it as an excuse to be a--holes.

As the old saying goes, if you've got to tell me how good you are, you're not.

I'm not telling you how good I am (when did I ever state this?).  I'm just saying I live by those core values to this day.

You know what?  I'm done with this poo.  Nobody can get through to you, ever.  So, I'll just leave this alone.

I can see how people are annoyed. It seems like Gettleman lets people walk much more often than he resigns them. Cam and Luke are obviously exceptions but those are two of the biggest DUH resignings in franchise history.

Besides Norman, who did he let walk that didn't get overpaid elsewhere?

Sorry, but I'm not convinced "core military values" correlate with being a whiny b--ch of a sports fan.

Stop taking yourself so seriously and try actually enjoying the team's successes instead of pissing and moaning all the time. It's a lot more fun.

I respect military as much as the next guy and more than most but that's a bullshit approach to being a sports fan. First off, not even "military excellence" is perfect and 100% victorious, never makes mistakes and poor decisions etc. if that's what you took from it then you missed the point BIG TIME. Their values also involve lives being on the line and global stability, that's FAR from what sports are about.

If you don't consider what the Panthers did last year to be excellence then there is no one on the face of this earth that can help you. We became an elite force in the NFL IN ONE SEASON. After constantly being written off and undersold by every media outlet we somehow stuck it to every single one of them and won 2 championships in the process, the NFC South (for the 3rd year in a row) and the NFC. No one here is happy we lost the super bowl but poo happens and even the best laid plans falter, it doesn't mean that you use "military code" to call a team a failure for having one of the best seasons any team has ever had.

Lighten up Francis. Life is a game that no one gets out of alive. Military service and striving for excellence are amazing things. But you also have to be able to seperate yourself from that and objectively look at what's going on around you. Excellence and perfection are not mutually exclusive. And, in fact, the military leaders who are unwilling to admit they are fallible and who have to be perfect are the ones that get people killed. This team did incredible things, love that and accept that maybe it's because we were doing all of the right things and it just wasn't our day on that ONE DAY.

Gman will not sign Short to a long term deal. He's going to play this year under his rookie deal and become a free agent after the season. Gman will then tag him for one more year and let him walk after next season when Short will be age 29. These next two years will give the team Short's prime years while Vernon Butler gets ready to take over his position.

It wild be Star who gets re=signed and not Short.

I can see that, I have felt Star is vastly underrated. I just feel like we will resign both. We get two more years for star correct? Resign KK this offseason, wait until Stars is up and resign him.

Maybe because he decided not to sign it?

Horse hockey.  Eric Berry, Mo Wilkerson et al have not signed in June in this or past years.  Besides, the reason given was NOT that he didn't sign it, it was because a long term deal was never going to happen.  When asked what could be done with $14 million, GMan's answer was "a lot".  I'm not denouncing GMan's genius, simply trying to understand it, because simply rolling cap over into future years is a very underwhelming definition of "a lot" for a team and fans full of piss and vinegar, chomping at the bit to win the whole thing now.

And none of those guys are happy. $15m was sitting on the table for almost 2 months. If he really wanted to be here he could have signed it. Two moves have been made already with Kalil and Oher. Money can roll over to next year as well.

Yeah I don't understand why everyone's in a rush to resign him. He still has to play this year under his contract, where his value could actually go down.. Then we can extend him, franchise him or let him walk..

It doesn't matter, the train keeps rolling

The franchise tag for  a DT is $13.6 mil. This will go up a bit next season (thanks Fletch), but why not get KK for $1.5 mil this year, and only risk having to franchise him for next season, probably for less than he'd get in a long term deal deal now. Don't misunderstand, I hope we line KK up more many seasons to come, but G-man is holding all the cards. in 2 years, Big Vern will have that much more experience, KK will be 29, and we'll be having the same discussion.

    • I had started typing my post hours ago and didn’t finish it and just came back to finish it, posted it, then saw yours and saw we were pretty much saying the same thing - even the games that stick out to us most.  I don’t think a lot of people remember that SF playoff game, but I felt like I had just got mugged in broad daylight.  I remember them calling Mitchell for unnecessary roughness, and then I remember watching Boldin take a super late cheap shot, dead in front of the ref and then showing him watching the whole thing in replay…  the refs let them have a fuging field day and didn’t do jack poo, but if we so much as breathed the wrong way it was fuging 15 yards.  Each team playing under two completely different sets of rules.  poo hurt.  I was enraged.  I’ve never went back to watch either that game or SB50 and never will.  fuging robbery.
    • I’ve said it a million times since, but it’s impossible to keep them from affecting the game.  In SB50, they literally took the game from us, and they did it early.  Cotchery’s no-catch?  The miraculous amount of times we converted for a first down only to have it suddenly called back make it a 3rd down and 15+ against the best defense in the league that specialized in rushing the passer and man coverage on the back end?  And you do that enough times, you kill the morale and confidence of the team you’re doing it against.  It’s telling the one team “you can do whatever with impunity” and the other “you can’t do whatever they’re allowed to do.”  It changes the aggression level.  It essentially neuters one team and allows the other to do whatever the fug they want.  Imagine you call the police for help and they get there and tell you to sit still while the other party beats the poo out of you and you can’t defend yourself.  That’s what the officials do.  There is no way to avoid them affecting the game.  And more often than not, it’s the most subjective calls they use to do so.  Even in SB50…  you saw the Broncos commit more egregious penalties than anything we did, and barely any of it was called.  Their OL was holding all fuging game and the refs did nothing.  We already had our work cut out for us against two future HOF edge rushers and the refs played to their advantage with that.  From what I remember, both Oher and Remmers were called for holding at various times and their hands were in the INSIDE of the defender.  It was garbage, but all by design. Also, if there is any video of it anywhere, go look at what the refs did against us back in 2013 against SF.  The fix was in there too.  They stepped in early and often and ensured we knew we were not allowed to play with the same aggression or intensity SF was.  It was disgusting as well. at this point, I hope Vince McMahon, errr, I mean Goodell just finally scripts us to win it, because this poo is not won via competition or off merit.
    • You can go back to the New York Knicks somehow getting Patrick Ewing.  I saw a story where they place the New York Knick card in the freezer right before the drawing.  It was simple.  Show everyone the cards are undetectable to the human eye.  All they had to do was grab the coldest card. IMO ever since Goodell took over the NFL it has been fishy.  Patriots winning the SB after 9/11, New Orleans after Katrina and Peyton Manning's going away gift against us. The terrible calls during that game were blatantly one sided.  New England should have been stripped of their first 3 SB when they were caught spying on the other team in their SB wins.  I think the evidence against the Patriots was so damning Goodell felt it could ruin football and they brushed it under the table.   In the 2004 SB, How did we go from practically no yards in the first Quarter to setting a record in the 3rd Qtr.  Dan Henning changes the game plan.  IMO probably the greatest half time adjustment of all time.
