Are we featuring Stewart for a reason?

I like both backs...Stewart looked awesome yesterday. Someone was just asking if we're featuring him for a reason...I simply posed a potential one.

Sell high...buy low. I'm just saying.

they're grooming stewart to be the load carrying power back they've not had since davis.

you don't invest the time and energy they have in a player just to give him away.

can we afford both of them after their Rookie contracts are up?

Looks like the San Diego dilemma is coming(LT/Turner), and we have other needs. If we could get a top 15 pick this coming draft?

In theory yes we can. The question is how much money will D-Will want after his rookie contract is up.

I think that the rotation of DWill and Stewart is one of the things we can honestly say is being handled perfectly. I wouldn't change it a bit.

And this isn't an LT/Turner/Sproles deal. Both are getting the chance to shine and it looks like they really do view themselves as a two-headed monster. They both genuinely seem interested in giving the other guy every chance to be the star. That's not something that ever happened in San Diego.

Turner was a back-up, wayyyy back. Stewart is more like a boxer's left cross (jab, jab, jab, left cross, left cross, right uppercut). He's part of the attack, not just someone to hold the fort while DWill catches his breath.

Well, if they wanted to extend DWill to a fat contract, next season would be the time to do it, assuming there is not going to be a cap for that one season. They could give him a huge signing bonus, and a huge salary for that season, thus giving him a ton of guaranteed money, and then make the remainder of the years on the deal more back to normal. Everybody wins.

I love DWill....but in today's NFL no RB is worth a fat contract. Too many RBs can get the job done....look at how many teams have mulitple threats at that position. Keep DWill if he wants to stay for some decent money which he deserves.....they shouldn't give him a fat deal.

I like that they're using Stewart. We have 2 quality RBs, use them. Throw to them as well. I liked that they were thrown to in the flats against Atlanta, I'd like to see some screen passes as well to keep the defense 'more honest'. If we can get the TEs more involved (Jake, you reading this?), we might be able to save on some of the wear and tear Smitty and Moose are receiving, and turn them loose for real home run balls!

Use whoever gets the job done. Stew did well yesterday, as did D-Lo.

    • Yeah, Fitzgerald was smart to sign with the panthers--not sure how many NFL teams were in the Market....I was surprised to see Morgan re-sign Tuttle and Ray--even if Ray's contract is completely unguaranteed--but with Brown, Wharton, Brown III, Robinson, Cam Jackson--maybe Crumedy--Tuttle could be excellent depth--but at DE, not DT, imo.  Once again, it appears that Morgan may have found UDFAs who have a shot making the team--last year, there were 2 who contributed in a meaningful way.  This year, I see CBs Thornton and Reid with a legitimate shot to make the roster.  I also think LB Nomura has a legit shot (Morgan has to love this guy) as well as LB Bam Martin Smith from USC.  Finally, I think one of the safeties will stick. In all, I expect 1-2 CBs, 1 LB, 1 S, 1 OL, 1 K to make this team. Predictions:   CBs Thornton and Reid make the 53-man roster.  LB Tuasivi Nomura makes the 53-man roster as a ST ace and ILB depth OL Michael Tarquin may make the roster to groom as a potential RT replacement for Moton.  Moton, BC, and Nijman are on expiring contracts.  While I like what I am hearing about Kandra, the OG room is very crowded.  Lewis, Hunt, Zavala, Kingston--but he could compete for the 4th G job. S:  Trevian Thomas, Isaac Gifford are probably the front runners, but Jack Henderson from Minnesota might be able to win a S spot as well.  I expect all three will not make the 53, but the darkhorse name to watch is Henderson. Henderson's Pro day: Minnesota DB Jack Henderson had arguably the BEST overall workout of any Safety in this entire draft: 40yd. 4.47 vertical. 40” Broad. 10’8” Shuttle. 4.15 3cone. 6.70 Bench. 12
    • I’ve said this before, in retrospect I consider 2024 his true rookie year.  When I judge it from that standpoint there’s a lot to be encouraged and excited about. He wasn’t a top 10 QB in that timeframe but he definitely looked like a legitimate starting QB with upside potential. I do expect top 10 numbers this year.
