Hornets Are Signing.....

Recommended Posts

It's a low risk move.   I have faith in Ewing though.   He molded Howard in Orlando and despite the last year and a half, he had Al in good shape for his early stint here before the injuries.   Also his work with Bizmack, which was starting to work out (before we screwed up and let him go).    I'm still not sure we got better, which other east teams did.    I'm going into next season cautiously optimistic but I always do anyway.  When you are a small market and other teams are creating All-Star teams like we're playing the fantasy draft on NBA Live 1997 with your buddy down the street, what else can you be?

No no noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!  You do not want this guy on your team.  What in the world is this team thinking?  You want to talk about a desperate move!  This guy is a complete head case.  A 7 footer who couldn't even find playing time on the desolate Lakers.  Rewind it back even further, you talking about a guy who played a full game for the Pacers in the playoffs, and came away with not 10, not 5, but zero points.  ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!

Shoot at least when we signed Lance Stephenson, a signing I was against for the record, he had some ability to go with his crazy mindset.  This guy in Hibbert, man, I don't know what to say.

Edit: I do have to say this.  There was a small time ago where Hibbert looked like he was on his way to being one of the top centers in the game.  However at some point within the last 2-3 years, he completely checked out.  He's the only player I personally ask why is he even playing basketball because he plays like he doesn't want to be on the court.

thanks for pointing out the obvious.. we are all trying to cope with the idea of signing him and looking at things glass-half-full.. it's tough, but when the big markets scoop up all the good/great FAs - we have to rationalize why Hibbert is actually going to work..

just relax, it's only a 1 yr deal and we will move on next year.. someone said this is like a Gettlemen signing - a 1 year "prove it to me" kinda deal.. it makes sense

I gave all the reasons i dont want him on our team, but in addition, as others have pointed out, he is a poor rebounder, and the "rim protector" reputation is misleading...  his lack of athleticism combined with his soft demeanor make for a horrible rebounder.  Hard for him to lumber into position and make quick adustments with positioning.  Remember how people hated that Al would score and then give it right back on defense because it took him so long to run back on the defensive end?  HELLO HIBBERT!

Remember how people hated Al being on the floor because he wouls get torched on the PnR?  HELLO THERE AGAIN, HIBBERT!

His rim protecting days were in Indy, and it was due to them slowing games down because he was on the floor, being efficient with the ball, which allowed them to get back on D, which then funneled shots inside because their perimeter D was so good...

I'm not going to keep harping on it.  It's done, and all I can do is hope for the best.  It's just very disappointing and underwhelming.

Had time to sleep on this move. I don't mind it. Compared to some of the crazy deals out there this was a good move. We get a good defensive Center to guard against the few bigs out there (Whiteside, Howard, Cousins, Drummond). When teams go small we have Cody or even Frank for small ball center. Preferred him over Zaza or a lot of the other centers who got paid!

The main thing is that if there is a lineup with 5 that can stretch the floor get HIbbert out of the game bc his PnR defense is equally horrible to Big Als.

Last time we signed a washed up center (Kwame Brown) with questionable heart we made him look like a average enough player to go sign a $7M 1-year deal the year after. I don't know about you, but if we can make Kwame look like a halfway decent basketball player I am excited to see what we can do with someone that actually has talent.

I hope you guys are right I guess we have no choice but to trust the FO.

You don't have to like anything the organization does, but if you disagree, type it out in a nice, rational, well-thought out post to help move the discussion along and address any counter-arguments in the same way.

"EVERYTHING SUCKS I'M NOT GOING TO BE A FAN BECAUSE WE DIDN'T SIGN A GUY I WANTED" doesn't contribute anything to the thread except the idea that you might not know what you're talking about.

Being honest I do not care what other people think but I will share what I think. My thoughts were well thought out even in anger. This team took a step backwards unless each of the guys we signed plays like the guys we lost in FA. This site is for all opinions and many people share my opinion as well. To each his own though.

I will say this I will buy Hornets gear next year if they make the playoffs again AND make it to the second round. Progression not regression right?

You'll buy merchandise and support your team if they meet your demands

You're not a fan, you're a hot-take specialist who criticizes every decision and qualifies the stupidity with "I could be wrong but"

Yes!  As a backup to Zeller I would rather have Boban than Hibbert and it's not even close.  Only 2 players finished with a better PER(Player Efficiency Rating) than Boban last season and they were Steph Curry and Kevin Durant.  Boban's average over 36 minutes were 21 points and 13.7 rebounds while Hibbert's were 9.2 points and 7.6 rebounds.  In fact, Hibbert has never had a points and rebound average over 36 minutes better than Boban.

You do realize he pretty much only played in garbage time right? Also he is a terrible defender. Watch the highlights of him against Nikola Jokic. He was abused down low.

If we can get him out of the funk he was in at LA.  People sure seem to forget him in Indy.  He was a Huge reason the Pacers came so close to knocking off the "big 3" in their run.   The Heat were so scared they tried bringing in Greg Oden just to be the guy to neutralize Hibbert.  He had a great post game, alright rebounding, good D and solid passing at the post.  Reminds me a of a poor mans Duncan.  Big very fundamental player but not flashy athlete
