Cam is a QB, they're always captains sooner or later, whether they're good or not. 

Luke was a captain early because the team that Hurney built had no other players on defense worthy of being captains except for Johnson and Davis. KK is our second best defender and third best player on the team, he was drafted by Gettlemen, why is he not a captain? Because they're too many older guys on the team. We're the 3rd oldest team in the entire league. 

If your point is that the foundation of this team was built by Hurney, I agree. If your point is that the foundation of this team was built by Hurney therefore Gettleman's not a good GM. I disagree

As far as the actual thread goes..  Gettleman drafted players dont need to replace any of those players until they retire or leave. The two younger players are two of the best in the league and the four older ones are the most respected  vets on the team.

I believe Star or KK should be a captain over Charles Johnson. I mean the man was cut by Gettleman. Gettleman saw no captain or leadership type value in Charles Johnson. Why is a man who was cut and told he does not carry the same value by the front office told by his own teammates he carries more value than Star or KK? Is this a statement by the players? Who knows.

What I do know is that I would rather have Star or KK as a team captain over Charles Johnson and I believe the front office made that loud and clear in the off season.

I give Gettleman his credit and try to support his stance on Charles Johnson. If you do not agree and believe Charles Johnson is more valuable to the team as a leader than Star or KK, then you can hold that belief. I won't bash you for it.

I believe some people may even believe Kony Ealy holds more value to the team than Charles Johnson, and Ealy should be a captain over him. I mean Ealy was the Panthers SB MVP. It was not Charles Johnson.

Leader. You keep using that word.

 

Just because the front office couldn't abide by CJ's contract doesn't mean they don't see leadership value in him. And just because he was cut doesn't mean the players don't value his leadership role.

See the thing is, about leadership, is that it is a personality trait. You either have it in you or you do not. Certainly, a measure of your performance is that you need to be credible therefore you need to produce at a high level. But your best players may not be leaders. And sure leadership can be developed, but a players ability on the field isn't the only requirement for leadership.

And also, honestly, I'm willing to bet there's an aspect of the players voting for leadership continuity as well. As we've seen with sticking with a coaching staff, continuity can be king.
