The Problem With The Last Two Games We've Played

The way they've been officiated creates apathy.  What is the point in investing so heavily in a game with our time, money, and thoughts, when we feel like when the NFL decides they prefer our opponent over us again, poo like last night happens.  When we watch, sitting on the edge of our seats, adrenaline pumping every Sunday for almost 6 months, to get to the biggest game, on the biggest stage, playing for a championship, and have it stolen from us because a "legend" going out with a title is a better storyline than the young, talented, transcendent, and flashy black QB winning his first?

When you take the ability to determine outcomes of games out of the hands of the players, you have ruined the product.  The luster is gone.  You create apathetic and indifferent fans, because we feel like our team doesn't have a chance until you decide they have a chance.  Furthermore, what's worse, is watching you allow players we care about have the living poo beat out of them as some sacrificial voodoo doll, while protecting others for unknown reasons is not only offensive, it is insulting and feels like it's personal.

The last two games we've played in was like a intercontinental title match, where we were the good guys and the Broncos were the heel.  Goodell runs out beside the ring yelling at the ref, the ref becomes distracted and starts fussing back at Goodell.  Meanwhile, the Broncos reach under the apron and grab out their handy chair and begin smashing our brains in, then quickly throw the chair out of sight as the ref, playing his prescripted part, ever the company man, turns back his attention to the match.  The Broncos pin us with the three count and the crowd goes crazy with a majority of cheers and laughs, and our fanbase representing the  equal parts shocked, dropped-jaw-silent disbelief and shrieking anger.

Even if I stopped feeding the NFL machine as a whole, I honestly don't think it's possible for me to stop watching or following our team...  i can't help it.  So, maybe I'm part of the problem.  But, at what point do we stop being fans and start being complicit in a scam?  Sadly, I think we already have crossed that threshold.

What I do know is, from now on, if it doesn't affect my team, and it's an NFL related event, I'm not supporting it.  If we're not "playing" in the playoffs or Superbowl, I couldn't care less and won't be interested in Goodell's scripted soap opera.

I've always always defended the NFL to anyone. Im not a conspiracy theorist at all but damn. I don't think the refs were so much trying to help Denver win but I definitely feel that someone up the ladder instructed them to keep it close. I think they wanted a close game on opening night to erase what most causal sports fans called a "boring" Superbowl. Our QB and team payed the price of the NFL ratings game.

I've thought about it, but the problem is in the principle.  Toying with the momentum, the physicality, and then expecting a team to flip a switch on at the last minute is just unfair.

More venting, I see.

The biggest problem for me was the coaching and play calling, hands down. 

The refs were a problem to be sure, but Rivera should have given them hell. This organization, which is largely a reflection of the public face of the owner, needs to stop being so damned genteel and politically correct. Call the motherfugers on their bullshit! You may not think it has an effect, but it does.

Man I say it every year but the refs influence games. I can name multiple occasions since 2005 where they were intentionally taking us out of the game.

 

At this point I'd rather them not be on the field at all. I wish we had non biased computers as officials

Refs have a human element of being arrogant and not wanting to be wrong. Plus the NFL backs them no matter what. Pure bs

this is like a fighter complaining about a bad decision. Don't leave it in the refs hands!!!!!! IMO the game was lost on that 3rd and inches. 100% of the time its a QB sneak and easy first down but Shula had to get cute and try and bounce it outside with Cam. I mean WTF??? that was the pivotal play in the game. ONE PLAY, ONE.......jesus

Some people just aren't emotionally there to accept the NFL for what it is.   The great trick the devil pulls is convincing the world he doesn't exist (so they say) and so the NFL is the same.

It's easy to blame the zebra's, and they screwed up enough last night to rightly blame them, but if you ask the players they will tell you to never leave the outcome up to someone else, to take care of business yourself. 

This team had a terrible time last year of putting teams away(Hawks, Giants, Saints) and they blew another double digit lead last night. Guess it's better to get it out of our system now and get back to what made 2015 such a great season.

I'm not blaming the refs for the loss or saying the result was manipulated.  Yeah, there were some terrible calls... but the headhunting against Cam, that was on a totally different level.  Pure disgust for what I saw and what the refs (esp those in the booth, who could watch the videos) allowed to continue on the field.

This game was 17-7 with us getting the ball to open the 2nd..There are no excuses to lose that lead.

The refs did eat a Costco sized bag of dicks... But they were only one of many problems.

1. Play calling in the second half was atrocious. 3 points... 3 fugging points. 

2. The Defense.. The "Bend and Hope for a Turnover" philosophy isn't sustainable.. Got bailed out on sustained Denver drives inside the 30, 3 times. You can't live like that. The D got gashed by Anderson all night long. They had a bad night, I'm sure the individual grades will substantiate that.

3. Killer instinct. The lack of stepping on the throat when the opportunity is there popped up again last night. When you have a chance to go for the kill, 3 points just ain't gonna do it. 

4. Gano- I know a 50 yarder isn't a layup.. But that two straight key kicks he's missed.
