Great story from Kalil

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

So here's something that - unlike most of the current discussion going on here - should actually make you feel good.

It's an excerpt from "The NFL Rookie Survival Guide" by Ryan Kalil, Jordan Gross and Geoff Hangartner (posted on The Players Tribune, linked by Voth). Kalil talks about a low point in his rookie season and how he moved on from it.

Enjoy: What are you laughing at?

I'll put my favorite quotes as I read

lol " What can I say? It was just humiliating. I had to watch Jake Delhomme get off the ground with his helmet twisted sideways. "

lol "The next series, I gave up another sack.

The worst part was that Jake picked himself off the ground with this bewildered look on his face like, Where did that come from?"

another sack...

' “What’s so funny?” I yelled (I might have actually cussed).

He just looked at me with a big smile.

“You won’t understand it until you’re an older player,” he said. “I want you to remember this five years from now when you have a rookie in the huddle with you who’s panicking because he gave up a sack and he doesn’t know what to do.” '

Im sorry I cant help it.. this is cold man  WOW

"My rookie year, a second-year player messed with Steve Smith. I forgot what this guy said or did, but we all thought Steve was going to explode. He didn’t, though. He didn’t say anything, just kept to himself. We were all really confused.

So we went out to practice, and when we came back, that other player’s entire locker had been cleaned out. All of his stuff was gone."

I actually remember some of that 2007 Texans game. We started out strong off the gate only to give it away with sacks and turnovers. Quite insightful to learn a few things that happened.

About that second year player that pranked Smitty, I swear I heard that story before somewhere.

    • Think the "official time" put out was 4.48, but there were a lot of scouts there who of course all had difference times as it's all handed timed by them.  Think I saw it as low as 4.43 and as high as 4.62 or something, but in the end it's all basically the same speed because 40 yard dash is so pointless. Anyone who complains about his speed is just someone who wants a Chase/Jefferson/Nabers style #1 as opposed to an Evans style #1 who isn't going to beat you because of his speed but his other abilities. In the end, he's fast enough for a player his size and surprisingly quicker and more agile than people give him credit for too. The real problem is that Panthers fans can't get our past big WR failures out of their head, they hear "big WR" and automatically see a plodding KB or Jarrett in their minds and assume that's also T-Mac.
    • If you are buying Silver Club, 300 level, try and the buy ones that have the Lot 1 parking pass.  it is steps to the stadium Also, buy on the shade side my PSls used to be section 342, under the overhang.  I didnt care about sun or rain plenty of sites have interactive  maps that can show you   Just know, if they are opposite side of 342, the sun will beat on your head…endzones too.   if, you know for sure that you are going, and you need a hotel room, do it now  you can always cancel … remember, even if the panthers suck,  the national press follows them as do their fans.  Hotel rooms go fast for that game
    • didn't he run like a 4.52?
