Panthers Offense Also Has To Keep Cam From Getting Hit Too

We can discuss all day about illegal hits, but Mike Shula/Cam and this offense must start working on how to get the ball out faster. The 1st half against Denver was perfect in execution, 3 step drop passes, Cam not dropping too far back, misdirection and zone read with our RB's, we kept Cam out of harms way.

Until the 2nd half, they do a complete 180 back to our usual offense

I agree, but what also needs to happen is our hog mollies need to stand up for Cam when he gets hit like in the Denver game... they acted like it was perfectly fine that Cam was getting assaulted.

Cam needs to be able to read a green dog blitz. The blockers also need to release after a chip or fake block. There will always be a free defender spying Newton or coming to hit him like the Broncos were doing by anticipating that he will try to extend the play. Newton has to hit a blocker who releases if their defender is blitzing, throw the ball to the sideline at the feet of the releasing blocker, or throw the ball up deep in a man on man situation and trust that the receiver will win the battle.

He should never break the pocket and try to extend the play without expecting to have the free defender ready to hit him immediately.

The only way to stop a green dog blitz is to have a WR who can dominate their defender one on one. Two seconds and throw the ball. Until a receiver can consistently win their one on one match ups, Cam will see much more of the Green Dog Blitz from opposing teams. This will keep Cam from scrambling to extend a play. The Panthers offense must prove they can beat it all game long.

How many years now have most of us said, 'Cam get the ball out faster'?

Bingo. This is the slowest team to evolve I have ever seen. I saw a stat that Newton in his brief career had been hit 588 times

Think about that 588 times starting his his sixth year, the next closest is 200+

Also. It is past time for an upgrade at tackle. If Darryl Williams can't beat out Remmer, well if not now, when?

this club needs to stop the bargain hunting and reclamation projects on  the oline and there is always an excuse

i am sorry but if we could trade up to get Funchess...if we could give a 4th Rd for a punter, we should be able to get a decent tackle

...or find one good young fullbacK or TE who can block and catch.

    • You could say that-- but if we don't need a starting OT this year, why would you draft a flawed one that is not going to play? (We are coming from different underlying assumptions and perspectives--I see your argument and don't disagree with the premise) Your thinking is based on the assumption that an OT for the future is more important than immediate needs at other positions, or that we can meet other needs in later rounds even if we take the OT in round 1.  I do not think there is but 1 OT worthy of a first-round grade---they are mocked based on need and demand--if we do not have a need for a starter right now, a team at 18 may grab a T that is the 33rd best player--worth it if you have no starting T, but not if you have a starter.  So just because they are mocked around the middle of the first it does not mean that the players are good values--teams get desperate.  QBs are a great example.  Simpson may be worth it in round 1 for the Cardinals, but not the Jets, because they have Geno Smith.  Sure, they will need a QB by next year, but taking Simpson is a reach. I do not see our need, with 2 starters (Walker and Moton) and another possibly returning by the end of the season enough to justify ranking OT over positions like Safety, Will LB--I do not think we replaced A Shawn Robinson (We gonna put a NT out there?  Wharton (280lbs)?  So do we reach in round 1 for a player who may not play much or do we get a Will LB that can cover?  A deep free safety?  A quality center? A playmaking TE?  A DT to replace Robinson?  A wide receiver to balance the secondary?  Long term, if the right player was there, you would be right.  Short term, OT is a luxury at this point, in my view.
    • Put Huey P Newton on the helmet. With his AK.
    • We arent switching. Evero is 3-4 to the core. Given how 3-4 has been a noticeable characteristic of top defenses recently and we have drafted and signed players fir it  I dont know why anyone would think that's a good idea
