Shula takes blame for lack of KB targets

Shula has to take the reigns off. Cam has a natural talent and he's athletic. In order for his game to grow, the OC has to be willing. Absolutely correct he has looked frustrated all three games and not necessarily with his teammates, but more from up top. Shula has to go because Cam has to grow. Too much talent for Shula. Their course has ran.

Will KB take responsibility for his crappy playing yesterday?   Honestly think he needs to be benched.

When KBJ had the illegal block in the back that negated Fozzie's brilliant TD run Rivera was screaming at him to get off the field. Anyone see any pouting from KBJ after this ass chewing?

I agree, let Cam call the plays like Big Ben.

I'd like if they would stop worrying about how much "rest" the defense gets and just go full no huddle get to the line and let Cam make on the fly adjustments...you can bleed the play clock from the line and it's when Cam is at his best plus it solves the delay of game issues we've been having...it's almost like shula changes his mind mid sentence and keeps us in the huddle trying to decide

Yes. Imagine the things he'd come up with if he had more control. Shula was good for Cam during this phase but I think his time has come. Cam obviously knows this, hence the frustration.

Knowing what I know about Cam I wouldn't be surprised if he directly confronted coach about this if we lose some more games.

Man, there are some interesting new folks this season, some real insiders and/or insightful folks....

Let's look at it this way:

If their physical corners are bumping and successfully jamming KB and Funchess, then they are going to be off on the timing of those longer pass plays.  That's a coaching issue in that they need to move folks around to prevent that from happening.  I can't recall, did we run our usual bunch plays?  I can't recall (I slept well last night, sorry!).

It's also a coaching scheme issue that we haven't developed a good counter punch to the green dog blitzes.  I'd think having the RBs flare out once the man coverage follow the WRs would be pretty good.  Or what happen to the unstoppable 8 yard slant that KB ran his rookie year?  I'd like to see us get back to that.

This is kinda where I'm at as well.

Was Zim throwing something at us we didn't expect?  Was the team just in a funk, and are just starting to learn that winning football games in the NFL isn't supposed to be easy?

You can clearly see the talent on the field, but I'm not sure the coaches, or the players are ready to use it to the best of their abilities.

Not buying the double coverage crap. KB's going to be doubled at points literally every game. Via Igo's Twitter

Third quarter down by less than a touchdown and we're looking at the bleachers like it's a 2 minute drill. Says a lot about your offense when a team gifts you the underneath routes on 3rd & 5.

the gameplan was working for a little while though.  ginn was abusing them.

our offense was really it's own worst enemy with the penalties on that day.  having to gain 15-20 yards on a consistent basis against good Ds is the easiest way to bring a stout offense to a grinding halt.  they left points on the board in the first half and like usual it came back to haunt them.   dominated the vikes in that first half for it to only be a 2 point game.  the vikings came out, put together one lousy drive, finally, and go up 6.  shula didn't adjust to the changing tide of the game (it really had already started at some point in the 2nd quarter) or the fact that the vikings had adjusted their gameplan in the locker room.  by the start of the 4th we are down two scores and it was time for the vikes to unleash their stacked pass rush.

I agree that I think we're seeing a disconnect.

Last year was absolute magic.  Look no further than Funchess's tip-drill grab.  Sometimes you're just good.

As far as the Vikes, it's the blitz again.  We just struggled when teams blitz us.  The best way to avoid that is to pound the ball effectively and we haven't been able to do that.  We've also moved to a more passing team because Cam was the MVP.  As we've seen, when Cam gets beat up, he tries to force balls to make those plays to elevate the team. Great idea, but the execution led to several interceptions.

Football is hard, welcome back to a world of Gravity!  I hope they use Atlanta as an opportunity to refocus and attack as a team.  The potential is completely there.  The talent, in some areas, is there, but we need to get back to Panther football.

1. Run it effectively. Asking CAP to filling for a quality NFL starter against one of the best Ds in the NFL is a tall task.

2. Protect the football.  We have been giving up too many boneheaded plays lately (safety, fumbles, picks).  We were really good about protecting the ball last year.  What happened?

3. Convert on 3rd down.  We used to be really good at maintaining drives.  Didn't we have the highest points per drive one year?  We would just grind people to death.  We need to get back to doing that.

Notice those are all offensive things.  Honestly, I'm not horribly unhappy with our D.  They can get better, but I'd place a higher priority on getting our offense working consistently, even against stingy defenses.
