Would you rather have the cap space and lose (and shorten the time we have with an elite QB), or be cap strapped and winning?

 

Know what I would choose, for at least one SB win in our history and get a few more years out of a top tier QB...

Frankly, I do feel like our front office could do more to help the team. But I don't at all buy into the mindset that we need to mortgage the future to win today. History shows that mortgaging the future rarely, if ever, works.

Well, the Broncos couldn't even re-sign their promising QB because they didn't have enough cash. Steelers are always having to restructure Big Ben to create cap room. The Patriots need Brady to take discount deals to stay under the cap and traded Chandler Jones because they weren't going to be able to afford an extension.

Teams with tons of cap space include the Browns, Jags and 49ers.

You never want to go full Saints but you have to spend money.

The Front Office should be treating this like a small window to finally win but are too interested in saving (pocketing) money instead of building up for a run. No OT of note added to make the line better and no DE added just makes us weak at the point of attack.

Us fans blame the GM and coaches (Hurney, Fox) when the real culprit is the seat that never changes or takes blame.

Win first then pay out to investors. Build something historic and then eat for years. As an organization they seem to be stuck in the same cycle. Fans get sick of it and players do too, when we see great opportunity squandered to save a couple pennies.

You seem to be under the delusion that spending money is "mortgaging the future."

New England. Denver. So forth. All these teams spend money and have maintained consistent dominance over the short and long term

I stand corrected. Guess I was believing a misconception

The panthers couldn't even keep moderately price free agents like Ted Ginn & Mike Mitchell because they were so strapped for cash in 2014. Since then Gettleman has Cam/Luke/TD/Olsen signed and has the cap space to keep KK & Trai in the future.

Yes, maybe Gettleman should've spent more on free agents this year but wait to the season is finished before overreacting.
