Panthers cut Bene

I think there is more to this story that Bene might have become a distraction in the lockeroom and with a team with 3 new rookie corners can't have that rub off on them or they want to send a message to the team that if you don't perform, you will be gone

I know it seems crazy but one cut player and a 1-3 season doesn't mean 1-15 record. Relax and wait until the end of the season before judging. We usually are a defense with a bad secondary that relies on the front 7. We went 12-4 with who at CB? Exactly. Oh btw we started 1-3. A lot can change in a season so let's at least wait until Tuesday morning.

You are absolutely right. It's not over by any means. That being said, this is starting to feel like a collapse on epic proportions. This feels like the Raiders of 2002-2003. They went to a Super Bowl and were favored because they had the best offense and got smoked by the best Defense (Tampa Bay: one could argue about conspiracies. I recall Tim Brown saying they didn't change offensive schemes until a day before the game. Gruden knew all the plays haha)

Anyway, they got smoked and have never been the same since. Granted, they lost a lot of talent and didn't have near as much as we do the following year, but it's starting to feel the same. Bad management on their part with bad signings and not bringing back key players.

I do do not think we will end up that way because of guys like Cam, Luke and TD, but it's not looking good.

There's no way Bene is claimed through waivers. Between still rehabbing from injury, being admittedly out of shape, and just playing poorly, I highly doubt anyone puts in a claim. I suspect we sign him back to the practice squad.

If he clears (he will) and we don't then you have your proof that there was more to this.

IMO this move was from his health problem, not being fully back from the broken leg. The strength coaches would have a lot of input into that. The Panthers didn't have much choice. All they could do was waive him or keep him inactive every game, counting towards the 53 man roster. That wasn't going to happen; they had to replace him with somebody.

PUP - a player can't be on the PUP unless he did not practice at training camp. Bene did & he's played.

IR - no major injury this year.

NRI - not an injury that is not football related.

I can see the conversation ending with, "Get healthy, kid. And stay in shape." I do hope he makes the PS if not claimed off waivers.

Rivera's comments at the press conference about wanting to go in a different direction (instead of a health/conditioning problem) accomplishes 2 things; 1) keeps Bene's reputation intact & 2) lifts Sanchez's morale. A feel good smokescreen. It's all we're going to get.

But I'm pretty sure you're quick to think Cam has one lol.

His whole pulling the tag from Norman earlier this year, and his proclamation of how big agents don't scare him shows he has an ego. You choose to not see it, but that's on you. You've shown you're not going to rag on the FO anyways; only the players. It's no surprise you choose to stay blind to it

I never said anything about Cam, so your once again grasping for straws.

Gettleman is ALL about putting the team first.  That doesn't support your take on it, so of course you are going to label me. That's cute.

I'm an equal opportunity asshole. I tell it like i see it, and I don't care whether they are players or coaches.

Keep digging, please.

My bad if this has been asked already but did they have to make room for Sanchez?

Well we didn't have an open roster spot if that's what you're asking so someone had to be let go to bring Sanchez up.

Even if Sanchez becomes an All Pro this year, there's still no way you can convince me keeping Teddy Williams instead of Bene was a better plan. That's what is so baffling about this to me.

    • I don't think Dave touches the defense. That might be a mark against him but definitely a huge red flag for evero. He refuses to run anything other than soft zone and when you don't get pressure that's an awful scheme
    • You don't have to convince me. I think not picking up the option should absolutely be firmly on the table but I just do not see Tepper and Morgan doing that for previously stated reasons. Therefore I'm not going to bother entertaining the notion. Just hoping we actually get real viable competition. If that doesn't happen at the minimum then my perception of that is complete and utter professional malpractice.
    • It was absolutely a catch, and I can’t believe how many folks were stating, before the NFL’s apology, that the overturn was the right call.  The ultimate question in this case is this: can a player complete a catch with only one hand? Of course, we all know the answer to that question, and it is an emphatic “Yes.” T-Mac maintained complete control with one hand (believe it was the right) while the other came off when the ball hit the ground. The ball was in the same position in the one hand (watch T-Mac’s fingers in relation to the NFL shield on the ball) after touching the ground as it was when it first went to the ground. Going back to the question above, if one hand can establish control, then there was no need for the other to stay on the ball, so long as the ball doesn’t move in that one hand that stays on it   It blew my mind that they overturned this in the first place. This should not be a “We got it wrong on the replay because there wasn’t clear and convincing evidence.” This should have been, “That was absolutely a catch.”
