Just how bad was that end zone pick by DA?

Derek Anderson mostly threw the ball well in his third start for Carolina (all of which have come against Tampa Bay), but he committed some costly turnovers in the final 15 minutes. First, he made a good decision to scramble on a third down, but fumbled on the way to the ground. Then, after driving the offense to a first-and-goal at the 1-yard line, Anderson inexplicably forced a throw into double-coverage, and Brent Grimes came away with a diving interception. Grimes is usually the one falling on his face in these moments, but he read this one all the way. Question is, why would the Panthers even go with the pass on first down? Maybe this is where Newton's rushing was missed, but a simple handoff there for a running team like Carolina would have made a lot of sense. Blake Bortles (2015), Andy Dalton (2013), Jay Cutler (2013) and Ryan Fitzpatrick (2012) are the last four quarterbacks to throw an interception on first-and-goal from the 1-yard line. No one has done it in a 4QC/GWD situation since Brett Favre (2006), and no one has thrown an interception from the 1-yard line on any down in a tied game in the fourth quarter since at least 1994. So this was epically bad from Anderson, and certainly not funny for Carolina fans.

NEVER BEEN DONE SINCE NINETEEN NINETY FOUR.

I didn't like really the call, but that doesn't mean DA had to throw into a crowd like that either. Throw it out the back of the endzone and live to play another down. Easily DA's fault, but hey, that's why he's a backup.

Someone on here said it earlier; DA is good for about 10 passes. After that, you can expect an INT soon. That's why Shula ran the ball 3 times on that last time. He didn't trust DA. Too bad he trusted him to make a goal line pass.

He also had 2 or 3 other passes that could have been picked; including one that should have been a pick 6

Russel Wilson did it in the Superb Owl right?

Until yesterday this was the worst call I'd ever seen, but at least it was second down with 20 seconds left and they were behind.

If anyone ever asks what "getting cute" means I'll forever recount the tale of the panthers letting their backup QB pass the ball on 1st and goal at the 1.

The one time you think "Yeah I'm glad we have Shula here.  Lets punch it in on that backup D line"  NOPE, FULL THROTTLERETARD

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
