Basically they didn't say anything we here don't already know... secondary is young, in-experienced and getting burnt worse than Richard Pryor when that stuff blew up in his face... D-line is getting zero pressure, a freaking safety(Boston) leads the team in sacks.

On average an NFL team spent 15m on their secondary this year... Panthers invested 4m

They took a couple jabs at Dave, saying that if you know your corners are going to struggle early then you better make sure your front 7 is squared away... something Dave didn't do.

The reason Dave should be fired is not because of the mistake but his stubborness not change or upgrade the postion. I hope to god he is forced to retire after this season. Oh yea JR values Ron over D.G.  never gave DG the chance to pick his coach basically told him to deal with it. Hopefully this time around JR & Ron works together to find a suitable GM that works with existing talent to develop a quality team.

The big thing is he thought his personal was going to be good enough to compete but he was wrong. Safe to say most of us here thought our team was going to be good enough but we were all wrong. Lessons to note for the future.

Exactly.  DG thought the front 7 were light years better than what they actually are.  Dg gambled and lost big, wasting a season of Cam's and Luke's primes years.

Ya its kinda hard to blame him tho based on the information we had.

One of the best offenses in the league and its only going to get better with the return of KB

Ealy has a superbowl MVP performance. We have Star and Short. CJ probably going to bounce back.
We have one of the best LB cores in the league Luke TD and Shaq.

Dang how did the front 7 go so wrong...... the only question mark was secondary but that still doesnt explain all the other problems we had.

DG did a great job getting us out of the cap situation but did not nothing to improve the team. I understand we just went 15-1 and a trip to the Super Bowl but you have to find ways to continually upgrade the team. He should have had a better handle on the josh Norman situation. He knew josh was going to demand more money than than he was willing to pay and should have looked for a replacement in free agency. He already knew Charles Tillman was not coming back and should have tried upgrading the the 2nd DB in free agency for a known commodity. The draft is a crap shoot and you know there were guys available in FA that were better than Robert McClain.

I know we need cash for up coming contracts but he is going to have to pay up at some point and quit low balling everyone.

In today's NFL that is just unacceptable. Like you mentioned below if you are going to skimp on the backend you better make sure the front end is dominant. Ours isn't. Gettleman overestimated the talent level of our team.

Our two best players are LB's. Unfortunately they have the least affect on the passing game. Luke and Thomas could get double digit tackles every game and we could still give up 35pts. and 400 yds of offense every game.

More money needs to be put in the secondary and D-Line. You can't win in todays NFL if you can't contain the passing game; and that can't be done without a strong pass rush (DE's) and strong DB's.

How does this happen?  How did the brilliant GM manage to overestimate the talent level of the team?  Most fans were worried coming into this season.  I think he just decided to squeeze blood from a turnip, and players be damned.  He just needs to go away.  now.

Though I agree with the thought that we needed to secure our front 7 before skimping on our secondary, I think quite a few folks are viewing this through the wrong microscope. Not too many expressed these concerns prior to the season to this degree and are using hindsight to act like we thought this front seven wouldn't be as bad. Ealy, KK, Luke, TD and Shaq were locks prior to the season, though only Luke and Shaq have shown up. DG bet on them continuing to be strong and Coleman would help the youngsters along.

Well, that didn't happen, but that doesn't make DG this awful GM all of a sudden. He's made mistakes, but far more successes,IMO.

One of his attitudes that annoyed me most is the comments from him and Ron "pressure can come from the middle too" to justify ignoring DE and taking a 1st round DT again. We don't need FIVE starting quality DTs (one could argue that even Soliai, Love and Butler would be starting on some teams).  Pressure up the middle is nice and all, but we need resources spent on the outside as well. First or second gd round draft pick resources.  Butler ain't pressuring poo from the sideline. It's nice to have a rotation to keep them fresh, but talent > freshness.

    • I mean, no I’m not going to panic when he got 2 Qs and looked great in 1 and looked not great in another (let’s not mention the drop).    Yeah we finally have a team that would be considered average offensively around him. Let’s roll this season.
    • The woe is me everything but Bryce sucks mantra is stale af my friend. Look nobody here is going to argue with the fact Frank Reich was not a good head coach. At the same time. Bryce Young is now in his second season with his second coaching staff and a handpicked young offensive head coach who has been known for working with QB's such as Baker and Geno. As far as the offensive pieces around Bryce we have the 4th highest salary cap allocation (that might be even higher now after the new Moton deal) dedicated to the OL in the entire league. We have 2 first round WR's one of them 8th overall the first time we've ever selected a WR that high in franchise history. And the fact of the matter is Bryce Young did not have a good preseason. It's not the first time it's happened either. We all hope to see he and the rest of the team flip a switch in week 1. But we should all be able to agree that the offensive performances we've seen from the entire QB room (Bryce included) in preseason was simply unacceptable.
    • We have seen Bryce play… what… 9 games with AT BEST what one would consider NFL average WRs? You just can’t see the forest for the trees and keep going back to your lazy take of revisionist history.    he looked AWFUL Y1 with the worst coaching I’ve ever seen in the NFL and one of the weakest WR rooms I can recall. He looked awful first half of y2 and great second half of y2 with average coaching and average skill position. I don’t know where this elite talent argument even comes from.
