Cam is fed up, says the no calls have taken fun out of the game

I don't think race has anything to do with it. Vick got tons of calls. Russell Wilson gets tons of calls. Cam used to get a lot of calls. I think Cam publicly calling out a ref for telling him that he "wasn't old enough to get that call" has almost everything to do with it. Seems like it was right around that point when the calls came to a screeching halt.

If the NFL doesn't start treating Cam fairly, as painful as it is for me to say, Cam needs to walk away from the NFL. Football is dangerous enough with the protection the rules offer, but it's damn near suicidal if those rules aren't followed for one particular player. Cam is far too talented off the field for his health to put in jeopardy by a goverening body that views him less than other human beings.

Seriously, just go own at water polo. Could prob be an olympian.

I don't think it's racial(with strictly the refs), but there just can't be any more of these examples. There have been so many instances of Cam taking shots on the chin in the pocket, or this poo. It's fuging pathetic. The NFL really doesn't want Newton to be the face of the league.

No, just going off memory. I also remember Vick complaining about not getting enough RTP calls and then it was shown that he was given that call more than most QB's per 100 attempts. I also remember the Eagles bitching to no end about McNabb not getting enough RTP's and then being shown that he was also one of the more heavily protected QB's by the refs. And I remember plenty of people pulling out the race card in those cases, convinced that the league was just racist. And then, as now, I thought it was a f**king stupid argument. Its the way he plays and his size, not because he's black. Don't be stupid, you aren't helping anything.

His size, run ability, personality and yes color of skin take part in the no calls...some things may factor in a little more but race has a place in it as well...

One of the things with Vick to is due to his slight stature he was tossed around like a rag doll sometimes, hits looked more dramatic. The fact Cam is such a stud actually works against him.

I'm surprised it took Cam this long to finally come out and say it.

Now Rivera and Richardson need to stand by their franchise QB and back him up fully. No more straddling the fence on this issue, there are clearly two different sets of rules for QB's and whether it's racially motivated or based on playing style (or more accurately, a little bit of both) it needs to be addressed and corrected.

I'm sure the ESPN/Yahoo comment section crowd will just accuse him of being a crybaby but I can't see how a neutral observer would be able to deny that Cam does not get the protection other star QB's get.

Exactly and the excuse of "he's big and strong" is officially tired. He's all of those things, but denying the obvious does no justice.

If you guys really think the officials have posistionally based racism, there's no helping you.

Or would you say that white receivers are more likely to get favorable pass interference calls?

I would say that Cam's playing style works against him and that most refs would rather swallow their whistle and not make calls until he actually gets seriously injured. Telling everyone what Hochuli told him certainly didn't earn him any favors with refs either.

If you think its racially based, I think you're an idiot and not helping the situation. Focus on the real problem.

Cam is everything everyone has named and yes race plays a part in this. It's okay for you to not want to believe that, I'm not in the business of trying to change opinion. Good day, God bless you.

    • I'd hold on to Walker - we have no OT depth at all. Freeling is a block of clay - all the tools are there and he appears to have a great attitude. He needs serious work on his technique to realise his potential though.
    • From my watch last night: They weren't trading out of 19 unless it was a daft offer once Freeling got there. They were clearly antsy to get Hunter - and Minnesota actually called to offer the trade down. They weren't trading out of the third round pick once Brazzell fell to it (and Canales would have been happy with him in the second round). They traded back a lot on Day 3 - even if Morgan 'Babe Ruth'd' it with Lee, Hecht and Wheatley; they clearly weren't the only guys they would have taken at those picks. I'm curious to know which player caused the reaction at the start of day 2 (Dan Morgan): "of course they'd pick him"
    • Watching this confirms that this staff and front office is super high on Monroe Freeling. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gotta a real chance to win the starting LT job in camp. If he does, we can look to flip Rasheed Walker to a contender desperate for tackle help.   As for Ickey I still really like him and wanna extend him but based on how the staff was talking about Freeling it might be time for ickey to start taking some practice sets at guard if he wants to stay here as we are gonna have to have figure out a solution for the contracts of Lewis and Hunt.  My preferred scenario for the Oline in 2027 is Freeling-Ickey-Hech-Lewis-Moton.
