Joe Haden: A Fan's Midseason Wetdream

I believe that was a title of an unreleased Shakespeare work.  Anyway, last year, we were all stoked when Gettleman swung a deal out of nowhere for much needed pass rush help in the form of (likely) future hall of famer, Jared Allen.  I just have to wonder if he works some more Gettlemagic (the good kind) today, with the target being Joe Haden?

I'm not sure how well that works scheme wise, as we predominantly run zone and Haden has long been regarded as a man corner.  Some guys can play both equally well, and then again, we could also make some adjustments scheme-wise to make it work.

Regardless, i know this isnt the NBA or MLB and the trade deadline isnt nearly as active as theirs, but that being said, I really hope we try to swing a deal for Haden.  That would go a long way in healing the wounds left from Norman's departure, and could set us in a great position for the rest of the season and moving forward.

This trade needs to happen. Makes too much sense. With the pass rush coming back to life this past week by adding Haden which we can afford for not only this year but years to come, this fills a huge hole that formed when letting Norman walk.  Haden, Bradberry, and Leonard at nickel would help the defense greatly.

it would be a great way for Gettleman to show contrition for his dumb@$$ moves this offseason and half @$$ed attempt to cover them up.

That being said, there is more to this than playing Madden GM and signing the guy. We would have to give up something that would likely piss off fans and, admittedly I haven't looked, i'd imagine he doesn't have a small contract.

I think the fact we were undefeated had a lot to do w/ Gettlemen pulling the trigger on Allen last year.

my gut says that since we are 2-5 we do nothing

I think we stand pat as well, but i'm hoping for this trade if we do pull anything off...  i think just as our record last year influenced the allen deal, i think our talent dictates it still this season.  While our record isnt great as of now, our dominant performance Sunday reignited a lot of belief and excitement that this team is still capable of making a run.  Our core talent base is unparalled, so despite the record, i'd like to think Gettleman still approaches it as "we're all in," despite his offseason flubs.

I don't. This season ain't dead. Plus, the long term always has to be a consideration.

Zero chance Gettleman trades for a guy on the contract we offered Josh Norman that is worse than Josh Norman.

Haden is not the same guy he was a couple years ago when he was one of the best in the NFL. He has regressed significantly.

His current deal was 5 years/$67.5M.  Cap hit for this year is $13.4M.  Next year it is $14.4M?  I don't know as much as I should about trades, but would a restructure be in the works?  How could Carolina frame this trade to avoid the high cap hit, especially with a player that has shown so little this season (I understand he has a "supposed" groin injury).

    • You don't have to go through every game and point it out as we are discussing his GWDs. You specifically called out that he had GWDs because he is the reason the team is always playing from behind. We looked at those eight games and only Miami stands out as one where he put the team in a hole to begin with. You've added the Atlanta game where the team didn't score a TD but only kicked field goals. You're not trying to change what we're discussing to fit your feelings re: Bryce. That's not necessary. We are discussing GWDs per the thread topic. We have also shown that your opinion that the team has had to always come back due to Bryce was proven to be false as was the claim that "minus one game" was his fault. Appealing to emotion afterwards by trying to broadly paint the rest of the losses in the same way just doesn't work. Where in the Hell did you get that the entire point is the suggestion that BY is more clutch than Jake and/or Cam? It's giving something to be positive about in that Bryce has shown the ability to comeback and win games despite the calamity that might have taken place to put them behind to begin with. How is that blasphemy?
    • His run blocking is making up for his negatives in pass blocking right now.  He’ll still have pass blocking hiccups, but if they think he’s a critical part to the locker room and team construction, you probably re-sign him and try not to overpay.
    • Callahan is gone McDaniel and Taylor are happening Stefanski is a growing possibility. I mean, they need to get an offense going eventually.  Could see Morris as a surprise one.
