Patriots got their ass beat 2 out of 3 times against a top level DL, especially that season their offense was supposedly unstoppable.

News Flash: The Rams and Saints D were ranked in the Top 10 those seasons.

No, your point is mute, dumb ass.

They won 4 SB cause of Brady , Offenses for Saints & Greenbay won the SB so you point is mute dumbass

Brady? I guess you forgot those Patriot defenses that featured Malloy, Law, Washington, McGinnest, etc. Brady was a game manager in those years, dumb dumb.

Again, The Saints D was ranked in the Top 10 and rated as the highest scoring defense that season too.

Try again, moron.

He probably joined the bandwagon during our 2015 run. The kid's never seen any of our division opponents when they've had good defenses, or the Patriots.

Our fanbase has been talking their way into settling for mediocrity for years, even in the face of a losing season where even Ray Charles could see that our OL was going to be a problem heading into the 2016 season.

Yeah you can scream defense wins championships until you're blue in the face, but last I checked we don't have a Lombardi Trophy sitting in BOFA, and unless we get a real offensive line, we won't for quite some time.

It's great some of you guys can find solace in bragging on other teams championships, but uh, that poo isn't cutting it for me.

lthough the Rams out-gained the Patriots 427–267 in total yards, New England built a 17–3 third-quarter lead off of three St. Louis turnovers. After a holding penalty in the fourth quarter negated a Patriots fumble return for a touchdown, Warner scored a 2-yard touchdown run and threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to tie the game, 17–17 with 1:30 remaining. Without any timeouts, Brady led his team down the field to set up kicker Adam Vinatieri's game-winning 48-yard field goal as time expired. Brady, who completed 16 of 27 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown, was named Super Bowl MVP.

The game was scoreless for a Super Bowl record 26:55 before the two teams combined for 24 points prior to halftime. The clubs then combined for a Super Bowl record 37 points in the fourth quarter. The contest was finally decided on New England kicker Adam Vinatieri's 41-yard field goal with four seconds left. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was named Super Bowl MVP for the second time in three years. He set a Super Bowl record for the most pass completions (32), completing 66.7 percent of his passes and accumulating 354 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, and 12 rushing yards. Jake Delhomme for his part overcame the poor start with 323 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Down 10–6 at halftime of Super Bowl XLIV, in what many consider the turning point of the game, New Orleans successfully recovered a surprise onside kick on the second half kickoff, then took their first lead of the game on Pierre Thomas' 16-yard touchdown reception. The Colts responded with Joseph Addai's 4-yard touchdown run to regain the lead at 17-13. The Saints then scored 18 unanswered points, including Tracy Porter's 74-yard interception return for a touchdown, to clinch the victory. New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, who completed 32 of 39 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns, was named the Super Bowl MVP.[9] His 32 completions tied a Super Bowl record set by Tom Brady in Super Bowl XXXVIII.

Did you actually use The Steelers as an example too???? Lulz, you're very doltish. The Steelers had a good D that year too. In fact, their D was a huge factor in that game. That pick 6 was massive.

Haha that same defense that let Arizona back in the game but guess who helped them win the game

Pittsburgh jumped to a 17–7 halftime lead, aided by linebacker James Harrison's Super Bowl-record 100-yard interception return for a touchdown. Trailing 20–7 at the start of the fourth quarter, Arizona scored 16 consecutive points, including wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald's 64-yard touchdown reception, to take the lead with 2:37 remaining in the game. But the Steelers marched 78 yards to score on wide receiver Santonio Holmes' 6-yard game-winning touchdown catch with 35 seconds left. Holmes, who caught nine passes for 131 yards and a touchdown, including four receptions for 73 yards on that final game-winning drive, was named Super Bowl MVP. He became the sixth wide receiver to win the award, and also was the third Pittsburgh receiver to win the award, following Lynn Swann and Hines Ward.

Yea sure defense helped them but the Offense won the game

Hell, defense won the game for the Cowboys. The Redskins had 150 more yards than they did. Cousins threw for 450 yards. The primary difference was the fact that the Cowboys' defense stiffened up in the redzone where the Redskins' defense did not. The Cowboys were 4-4 with TDs in the redzone. The Redskins were 2-5. A big part of that was that the Cowboys were highly effective at running the ball while the Redskins were highly ineffective at running the football. When you're one dimensional in the redzone -particular y one dimensional passing - you're in trouble.

Agree that defenses win Championships but the offense has to score points to let the defense close the opponent out.

That said I also don't see how people can say Gettleman hasn't addressed the line.  Darryl Williams and Michael Oher.  Everyone wants us to draft a first round OT or sign a top tier OT but people forget Michael Oher was both.

I do believe this needs to be addressed again since Oher may never play again.

As a GM you can't make knee jerk reactions every time someone goes down.

My opinion is, it isn't the personnel it is the leader.  I think Shula has to go.  Sadly I don't think he and Rivera will ever part.  Rivera will go down with Shula.   That is also sad because I like our defensive style and with a fully healthy squad our defense is top tier.  Shula style is anemic and simple to game plan again.

Gettleman could fill the offensive line with all Pros and we still would have problems after half time.

Last year, 7 out of the top 10 defenses made the playoffs. (Number one ranked defense won the superbowl)
Last year, 4 out of the top 10 offenses made the playoffs.

The last five super bowls:
8 out of the 10 teams ranked top 10 in defense.

6 out of the 10 teams ranked top 10 in offense.

The better defense is 4-2 in the last six super bowl's

In 2014, 6 out of the top 10 defenses made the playoffs.
In 2014, 5 out of the top 10 offenses made the playoffs.

Top 3 teams in the NFL right now:

1. Rushing offense rank: 2nd, Defense rank: 22nd
2. Rushing offense rank: 28th, Defense rank: 9th
3. Rushing offense rank: 6th, Defense rank: 17th

Top 3 teams last year:

1. Rushing offense rank: 17, Defense rank: 1st
2. Rushing offense rank: 2, Defense rank: 6th
3. Rushing offense rank: 30th, Defense rank: 9th

But please, go on OP.

No it does  not. That's why even though l don't like them the patriots will be in the hunt and probably win it.. l understand the game  but you have to focus on offense. Gettleman f√cked up by put a mediocre line in front of our greatest player!

Clearly you don't read or research...that line was one of the best lines last year and this year is in the middle of the pack. The offensive struggles shouldn't be blamed all on the line. Look at the play calling, routes ran, balls dropped and the play calling...did I mention the fuging play calling?

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
