Can Shaq play some MLB?

No.

AJ Klein, if you haven't noticed, is pretty good at playcalling, just like Luke, on a smaller scale though obviously. So he's ultimately a better MLB than Shaq for sure.

His physical attributes and speed, however, some may argue exceeds Luke.

He'll be targeted, but his sheer amount of tackles last season with his interceptions and breakups will make QBs regret that

Panther players have expressed confidence in him, so I don't see the issue.

Coleman on AJ's Speed:

Quote

“If I’m correct, his GPS has been faster than Luke’s," safety Kurt Coleman said of the tracking device that measures the movement of players during practice. “That’s very impressive.

McDermott:

“It reaffirmed for us what we saw in A.J. before that," defensive coordinator Sean McDermott said. “To step in that role, to command the defense and control really what we’re trying to get done on defense, I thought he did a nice job and made plays at the same time.

“It’s one thing to get people lined up. It’s another to make plays. He did both of those extremely well."

Thomas Davis:

Quote

Davis agreed.

“His ability to come in and lead the defense from a play-calling standpoint ... he doesn’t lack any confidence from that," he said. “He came in and did a great job, and we expect him to do the same thing this time."

Kurt Coleman:

Quote

Coleman didn’t see a noticeable dropoff when Klein replaced Kuechly, which speaks volumes.

“A.J. is a very smart, instinctive player, just like Luke," he said. “Luke and A.J. are two peas in a pod, as far as what they do all together.

“A.J.’s going to be ready, locked in, and you’re not going to see any difference."

Greg Olsen:

Quote

“Luke is Luke. Everyone understands," Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen said. “But A.J. is considered a starter on this team. He’s starter-caliber talent. His production has been starter-caliber.

No, but I trust AJ..who IMHO could be a starter for dozen or more teams.

Luke to AJ is about a 15-20 percent drop off... but that's not really a knock considering Luke is probably the best MLB of this decade.

No mistake our linebackers are very good .... Klien, Shaq, Mayo, Cash, Norris. Hell, add in TD and Luke and that's a ridiculous amount of football IQ. Our regional scouts put in WORK.

We will miss Luke indeed but AJ will be ready.

Klien is balanced with his head.. He won't kill time sulking and forgetting to get the play called.

Shaq could probably play more positions on both sides than anyone else. Id take him and Cam 2 on 2 vs anyone on the team. Colin Jones & Thomas Davis may be second.. Funchess & Kyle Love would surprise some MOTHA fugAAS

AJ Klein would be a starter for many NFL teams. Is he Luke, no, and he isn't Luke because of pass coverage above all else. But Klein is starting caliber.

I'm scared to death of losing AJ in free agency this year. I want him around as insurance for Luke and because I treat TD like he is on a year to year basis given his age and injuries and the beauty of Klein is that he can play MLB and SLB. I'd pay him starter money and cross my fingers some LB needy team like the Niners don't throw an unreasonable amount of cash at him....because they should.

I'm also very curious to see Mayo against 1st teamers...

Honestly, leave Mayo. He's still got the fire and he can call. This is by no means a dis at Klein like I saw most of you doing last year. But Mayo is still trying to prove something. He plays with that Luke-Esque fire.

No. Klein is starter caliber, and more than just a fantastic backup. He plays well, and is far more solid than Mayo from what we've seen.

Let's see what Mayo can do when Klein is on another team with his starter contract, as a backup.

Don't throw him into the fire of Oakland's offense.
