According to PFF, James Bradberry is ranked 22nd out of of the top 25 CBs this season.

And he's only a rookie.

The only rookie on that list to be precise.

This should put into perspective how good Gettleman is at finding talent, and how much of a steal he really is.

I said that he was going to be a stud and better pick than Vernon Butler the day he was drafted. Nobody questions Gettleman ability to find talent, my issue is what areas he invest in.

BTW

Imagine having  Norman and Bradberry on each side with Worley playing  slot and having  Hunter Henry playing opposite of Greg Olsen.

Panthers would have been 10-0

He would have been drafted early 3rd round if Panthers didnt take him. His combine screams starter material.

"I'm hearing his name come up quite a bit on the road. Anytime a corner looks the part physically, he's going to get plenty of attention because those guys are still fairly rare in our league. Can he play? Senior Bowl will be big for him." -- AFC area scout

For Vernon Butler, the jury is still out on him, as it takes a while to develop DTs, but one could argue the same for Bradberry.

However, considering Butler is mainly solid depth, and Bradberry is a day one starter, one has to wonder what really Butler has in store, so one can't really solidly figure out who's going to be the better pick right now.

And as far as us winning with Hunter Henry, how exactly would he really help, besides being another possible receiver?

Sure, Shockey and Olsen days were nice, but really one has to consider what really made us lose all our games; namely our 2nd half collapses.

And for Norman, we'd lose a lot of players just to pay him, so I'm not complaining one bit about losing him.

So many close games though, could easily be 8-2. Really blame luck.

Comparing to Norman is kind of a fault IMO. Norman would be out of place on purpose trying to do too much, thinking he knows better than the scheme or plays called. He was always talented and even when he was put in the doghouse, I was posting he needed to stay in and was the next legit #1 CB from day one despite his mistakes and despite the knee jerk reactions basically 90% of he huddle saying he was a bust. He was in the doghouse much too long, that was a mistake on the coaching in one wa or another.

More of the same type reactions from the huddle. One player does not mean he is a great GM. A solid rookie performance does not mean he will be as good as Norman or good in general. Having a good year and being an above average player (or GM, or coach for that matter) are two things most huddlers can't seem to decipher between. It takes time.

guess the doomsday hater labels are designated to those who know the difference around here.

On a side note scouting is not my worry about Gettle. His ability to find talent is good enough. The problem is it may not be as good as he thinks it is. Therefore, unlike teams like the Pats or can afford to pay players peanuts because they can scout so well the next man up is already in place, Gettle needs to be a little more humble and realize he is not that gifted and may need to offer a little more money to get/keep players of value here.

Very fair. Just like with Kawann Short, and Star, we had to wait and see whether they would be good or not.

I dare say Gettleman has managed getting us out of cap hell quite well, and he will not pay players he doesn't think will help the team going forward more than others he plans on signing in the future.

He's got deals done with Cam, and Luke, respectively very high during their contract years. He got rid of most of Hurney's cancerous contracts. He got us to multiple straight NFC South titles after recently having a 2-14 season.

What's encouraging is Bradberry's potential. That's what I'm harping about.

I do believe Norman is missed and would have helped our defense, but he isn't the reason we have been losing.  I will also state that he never has been and never will be worth $15M a year.  Washington overpaid.  Good on Josh for getting paid and good on the Panthers for not being the team to pay him.

Very level headed opinion. I hope you are ready for the Gman haters, and the Josh lovers to give you a bad time.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
