Steve Wyche: Negative Vibe Inside of Panther's Organization

teams around the league have looked at the Panthers as a well-run and classy organization for a long time. it's hard to imagine all this has happened so rapidly the past few years, but i guess it's bound to happen when you teeter on the edge of success, but never achieve it.

the Panthers are definitely not a fan-first organization. between the stadium atmosphere that intentionally stifles excitement, to the whole organization giving monosyllabic grunts to begrudgingly fulfill their contractual obligation to speak to the media/fans, to little things like refusing to put the team logo on the field.

people will happily put up with that stuff when the team is winning. but when the team is loosing, and all but announce they have no plans to change their losing formula, that's when things are going to crumble.

During this time JR was bed ridden and out of action regarding making decisions.

The simple fact that the two people who were in charge whilst this did happen, were forced out by JR pretty much as soon as he took back all his responsibilities, says a lot.

In my eyes, if that is the source of the problem, then it's clear most were having problems with the guys making the decisions. JR is back now and went to the source of the problem. I doubt this will hang over us for long.

I'd be surprised if Richardson has ever heard of Carolina Huddle. I'm sure everyone else in the organization has, but not him.

Yeah, its not like he has ever come out to visit the Carolina Huddle tailgate....and I certainly have never had a discussion with him about the site...

Not really. The NFL pays his bills above everything else, but he has accountability to the NFL to keep the fans(keep them paying at least).

I don't think any hate is warranted towards JR, but the circumstances of everything that's happened since Jan is definitely cause for concern. Coaching/players is one thing but pointing fingers at the top is something that can lead an organization to collapse.

Any entertainment based business, be it music, movies, porn, sports, etc, is all fan based revenue. Entertainment is straight up consumer based capitalism and the consumer in the NFL is the fan. If you have the goods, you get fans and make money. If you don't, you die. How many PSLs does the NFL own? How many hot dogs, beers, cokes in a souvenir cup, jerseys, placemates, socks, dog dishes, etc, etc, etc, does the NFL buy every year? Nadda. The NFL is a multibillion dollar industry because it puts a great product out on the field, and fans flock to it. We feel emotionally attached to 'our' teams, and are will to pay for that. Even TV contracts and NFL profit sharing are still fan based revenue. TV contracts are based on advertiser money, which comes from eyeballs on the screen...fans. Profit sharing is one fan's money being given to a team with fewer fans. The NFL provides a union based organization for the teams. This creates a better product, and draws in more fans. The NFL itself, however, doesn't provide squat as a source of revenue to the teams.

The Panthers have always have a rivalry with the Jaguars since we both came into the league on the same year. The Jags are dying a slow, painful death. Their stands are half empty and they are in major danger of being moved. So far, the Panthers have enjoyed a much more loyal fan base and have been a very successful organization. You can feel mutiny in the air, however. If JR doesn't recognize who pays his bills and start making the fans feel more appreciated, we may very well see something similar happen in Charlotte.

If the Jaguars draft The Golden Calf of Bristol, they've bought themselves another three years.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
