Rivera worried about team's "mental health"

I think it was clear at Seattle that the players had mailed it in and given up. I would play whoever wants to give maximum effort whether they were a starter or not. That might wake a few guys up who are going through the motions.

I suggested this same thing a few weeks ago with the receivers. Time to call some guys up and see what they can do. But honestly---and I know that you won't necessarily agree with this---I don't know that it really matters on the offensive side of the ball with Shula at the helm, or just in general because it's so late in the season.

I think it should be play whoever wants it on both side of the ball. And you are right I don't think firing Shula will change anything. We had the best offense last year and it dropped off this year due to a poor O line and injuries. Playcalling isn't close to the true problem. Just like the defensive line isn't the.problem on defense. It is a terrible secondary which is so bad Bradbury gets lauded for allowing everyone to catch the ball while he stays 10 yards off the receiver. He hasn't given up big passes someone says... Because he gives up plenty of small ones.

I'd be impressed if he showed improvement at talent evaluation, let alone game or clock management.

I'd be impressed.

Much as I hate to say it, I'd also be surprised.

Rivera is a brilliant football mind and a legitimate defensive guru. He just doesn't have the skill set needed to be a successful head coach right now.

Shame, because he's such a great guy.

With things as they are now with too many injuries and not enough depth, and sketchy play calling and play makers on the offensive side of the ball, I have big doubts that Billy B could hold this poo together. Rivera deserves some blame, but not the lion's share.

If Ron is truly concerned about the mental well being of his players, this is when the team and the fanbase get to see what he's really made of. A true head coach will rally his troops and get them to the finish line still swinging (even if the season is shot to hell). Just another guy who happens to be in a head coaching position will treat everything like business as usual and shirk the blame to other things. So, which guy is the coach of the Carolina Panthers?
