He wouldn't have personnel responsibilities here.

Point being he'd likely dump the read option.

Not quite sure how that came off as him having personnel responsibilities. I'm concerned with a coordinator that is going to try and force square pegs into round holes rather than adjusting for what they have to work with.

Then what do you do with Oher, who we just gave a sizable deal? Eat the dead money, or hope he succeeds without Matsko (which is where all his pro success has come from)? Of course it's possible he retires or isn't even healthy by next season but I think it's more likely he won't and he'll be ready for next year. And obviously you don't want to keep a bad coach just because of one player on the line.

But I'm not so sure he's the problem on OL. The group has been pretty solid when completely healthy. Most of the struggles come from the inability to adjust the offensive system when something isn't working or pieces aren't healthy. A lot of the struggles in the Super Bowl on the OL had a lot to do with Stew being hurt, and when Stew was out this year the line was at it's worst. Same with the only regular season loss last year. Our offense can only have success in the run game when Stew is healthy because our sh*t offense is built entirely around Cam running the read option, and Stew is the only back on our roster who can run that. It's a pitiful philosophy and design by Shula and that's what hurts the OL and ultimately Cam the most, in my opinion.

I don't think Oher is coming back.

(and it's quite possible that he shouldn't, even if he wants to)

Ricky Proehl is the only offensive coach I hope stays

Arguments can be made for Pete Hoener and Jim Skipper.

I could go for that.  Who else might be available?

Listed some options earlier.

Might be others, maybe even the Saints if the Rams trade rumor actually has anything to it (not betting on it).

Changes need to be made but I don't feel they will be, particularly with all the 'missed opportunities ' pablum coming from Rivera

Newton is the franchise player. He will not go any further under Dorsey and Shula.

it is very obvious and it's very sad. Newton is comfortable and that is not necessarily a good thing

Then Rivera will get canned if he refuses to make changes. Nobody's job is safe after this season. Someone or some people are going to lose their jobs.

When we replaced Henning, we kept the position coaches even though we went from Coryell to E-P.  I expect us to keep Matsko, Dorsey, and Proehl no matter what happens.  If Shula is gone, the only certainty is that we don't get a WCO guy, and despite what Rivera said about changing approaches, it will be someone who can take advantage of Cam's running ability.

Basically, we're gonna end up with more long developing plays.

When Shula got the job, one of the candidates interviewed was Pat Shurmur, a WCO guy.

I always wondered if Rivera was thinking about going West Coast or if he expected Shurmur to adapt.

Hope you're not holding your breath, Scot.

I'm not.

The "if" is very "iffy".

People need to stop. Everybody in here know damn well nobody is going to get fired. All this talk is a waste. No offense Mr. Scot.

I actually do believe it's possible.

I'd stop short of saying "likely".
