What's the point of adamantly wanting to keep a guy, not to start, but as depth?

"We have to keep this guy in the hopes never plays."

guys like philly are a dime a dozen.

Not sure who is adamant about keeping him. All I am saying is that he is good depth as your fourth to fifth option. Why dump a cheap guy who knows your system and fills a need for a cheap guy who offers nothing more? If we can upgrade Philly, then great. It's not like it's at the top of the agenda though.

Surprised you listed Bersin.  I like him and he's been good depth especially as we turned over the whole WR corps, but going forward, now that KB & others have more experience, I do think he might be expendable.  Would love to see Funchess develop, but this year was a big disappointment in terms of his performance.

I would think Vernon Butler would still be around in 2020.

Hope Trai is around, but yes his price could be high..  Obviously his transition to OT wasn't seamless, but it was better than I expected  Having that kind of versatility is really important.  Also would love to keep KK, especially as we need to find new ends, keeping some stability on the line going forward is important.

Wondering if Tyler Larsen will be our future at Center?  He did pretty amazingly well filling in for Kalil & Gradkowski.  I think we may have just found our future Center..., but we'll see.

Trai is a Guard, Guards don't get paid that well under the Salary Cap.  So, he and Norwell will both probably be staying.

Putin annexes the United States through Trump making a yuge deal as Jerry Richardson entices Putin to adapt the Carolina Panthers as the official football team for the Kremlin though free lifetime Bojangles.

Putin accepts and turns the Carolina Panthers into the Carolina медве́дь.

Putin also appoints @ARSEN Czar of all Football.

And here we are for the state of the 2020 Panthers.

Legend of Kremlin is the official drink of the Carolina медве́дь. За тебя!

If I'm pointed a Czar of football, I'm moving Dallas Cowboys to Juarez.

Trai & Norwell  are important as Star & Kk

those 4 should be extended period unless you never want to win a SB

I agree they are important and should be part of the core. I just don't see them getting their asking price, and KK looked up to Norman.

Andy Lee will be 90 in 2020. I do not see Worley and Funchess getting past their rookie contracts with their current performance. A lot of improvement is needed on their parts. I also do not see the Panthers keeping both Funchess and KB if they are both 50/50 receivers when it comes to catching the ball. I believe Butler will follow the same path as Ealy, but I will reassess him next season. Hopefully, he is not messing up his responsibilities, getting pushed 5 yards off the line and opening holes for the running game next season.

I just do not see a lot of the players that I believe will be the vet core among the best at their position by 2020 like TD, JStew, Cam, Luke, Tolbert, Olsen, and Kalil are now. Outside of Luke and Cam, I believe many of those vet players that remain will be on par with the value CJ currently brings to the team. They will be quality vet leaders that a lot of people complain about because they do not show up all the time and get paid too much. I do not see them as the players needed to win a SB.

The solution is the Panthers need to hit it out of the park in the next 3 drafts with the players they can attain with their draft capital in order to land players that are the caliber of a Luke, TD, Cam, or Olsen. I do not see how they can field a strong team if they only draft 15 players over the next 3 drafts. There is always the chance they are error free for 3 off seasons, but that is unlikely for any team.

The future of the team starts with the 2017 draft. The Panthers need those players who are top 100 in their first few years. The Panthers have pulled this off with Kris Jenkins, Steve Smith, Julius Peppers, Jordan Gross, DeAngelo Williams, Jon Beason, Jonathan Stewart, Ryan Kalil, Greg Hardy, Cam Newton, Greg Olsen (traded draft pick), Luke Kuechly, KK Short, and Trai Turner. So, it can be done. There was 4 top players in 3 consecutive years twice from 2001 to 2003 and 2006 to 2008. Then there was 6 top young players in 5 years from 2010 to 2014.

The Panthers have come up dry the past 2 drafts on top young players, so now it is time to see another run of young players drafted that will rocket into the top players of the NFL.

Cam Newton, Kelvin Benjamin, Devin Funchess, Andrew Norwell, Trai Turner, Ryan Kalil, Greg Olsen, Luke Kuechly, Shaq Thompson, Kony Ealy, Star Lotulelei, KK Short, Vernon Butler, Kurt Coleman, James Bradberry, and Daryl Worley from the current roster.  Yes, Kalil and Olsen will be old at 34, but it's not unusual for players at their positions to be productive at that age.  Coleman will be old for a DB at 31, but he will be largely there for leadership and surrounded by a secondary entering it's prime.  The rest of those listed should be at the top of their game.  And that's just the starters--we should still have guys like Tre Boston and David Mayo who are effective backups/ST players.

I expect in the next three years that we get another stud RB (Fournette would be great this year), and a couple of tackles that are as good or better than what we have now.  Cam will be wiser and older, maybe even old enough to get a call from Hochuli--but he'll still be a runner.  Our twin towers at WR should be around still, although I wouldn't be surprised to see KB in more of a hybrid WR/TE role while Funchess is our #1.  I think you're on drugs if you believe Bersin and Brown are still on the roster though--they get more expensive each year and are both JAGs.

I'm also not sure how you missed Ealy.  He's been disappointing this past season, but he will be 28 and presumably at the top of his game.  I think he'll develop into a natural replacement for CJ.  And I would be shocked if we let Short go this year.  Just because a guy's going to b expensive doesn't mean you don't sign him.

Looking at that group, we have more pieces to build around than we did a few years ago, so there's a lot of reason for optimism around here.

You have a source verifying that Short "looked up" to Norman, right?

(and I mean a source other than your own fake ass bulls--t)

This is par for your usual garbage.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
