Just cause his stupidity only cost him his hand and he didn't break the law thank goodness people think, ok i'll sign him

Maybe next time he won't get so lucky and he will only break the law instead of blasting his fugin hand off with fireworks

Geez bro he was probably drunk af and really hasn't gotten in any trouble other than that.  Not like he killed someone while he was driving.

When I'm looking at DE's I want, intelligence isn't high on the list.  I like a little crazy in my d lineman

Really, how come?

I actually want Pep and JPP. I'd much rather spend on proven edge rushers in FA than draft, hope and wait. I keep mentioning Jabaal Sheard, he may be a nice cheap get.

You could get Andre Branch AND Devin Taylor AND someone else to help you in the pass rush department for the amount of money it would take to bring JPP here.

He isn't even really elite, and people here are just grasping for who they think is the best guy out there because "oh noez we have no pass rush"...

Really?  Why?  Because DG?  I seriously doubt we sign him.

This is not DG MO.  How many big time free agents has he signed.  We'll pay KK before we overspend for a partial disabled DE.

Agree that's not is MO, but he has spent in NYG when the time was right. During his presser he eluded to the year that he brought in Plaxico, Antonio Pierce, and Kareem McKenzie. He has been strapped for cash up until this past offseason, and he didn't think he needed to spend it. Outside of the JNo franchise tag, and maybe extending KK, there wasn't a lot out there. Nobody saw Oher, and 80% of our starting OL injured and Oher had a great 2015, so hindsight is 20-20 here. Remmers had a solid '15 campaign, but got exposed towards the end of the year... not bad for an off the street FA signing.

DG gambled, and lost... big time. But I think he could plunk some cash down on someone this offseason, but how much and who are the biggest questions.

I'm not 100% sold on JPP being the answer and think he could be one of those FA that cashes in, but doesn't bring the value to the team that signs him.  However, he showed that he could still play at an elite level and in our scheme, surrounded by guys like Star, Luke, TD, Bradberry and Coleman (and maybe KK and CJ or Ealy), I think JPP could be a beast.

The question it comes down to is if the beast is worth the dough he thinks and/or the market demands.

If we pass on JPP, I think Getts will sign someone bigger than anyone he's signed since he's been GM. He has gone thrifty for awhile, so bringing in someone like JPP, Desean Jackson, Kenny Stills or Jonathan Cyprien or Tony Jefferson wouldn't surprise me.

Our window is still wide open. A homerun with our first 2 picks and a solid free agency, and we are back in the thick of the NFC crown again.

I think this is the key right here. JPP is someone you have to take into account when gameplanning. At the very least he draws some attention away from guys like KK, Star and even Butler. That's something we didn't have this season which made life difficult for KK.

I think someone may hand out a decent sized contract to Jefferson. Cyrprien will most likely come cheap and could be a nice bargain signing. Stills imo doesn't really offer us anything Ginn doesn't. Still will have those concentration drops and isn't much more than a deep threat, I'm all for adding speed but one of our speed guys needs to be able to run more than just the deep routes.

If we fail to address RB in the draft another name people tend to forget about is Eddie Lacy. Last I read he was planning on doing P90x again this offseason but you'd like to think it'd be a given he would try and lose weight. Anyway he could be a decent bargain signing as well as he's a tough runner, something we need behind our OL.

Also, what's that thing DG always says? "Rather have a dime than 2 nickels"?

He believes in that philosophy for the draft he may believe it when it comes to FA as well. I guess you COULD possibly argue he's never had the opportunity to take this approach in FA due to cap issues. This offseason he really doesn't have any restrictions. We had a dime in JPP and a bunch of nickels in role players and we could look like a legit contender next season.

I think JPP 's numbers this season are saturated because opposing o-line's main focus was Vernon.  He got a lot of double teams, allowing JPP to get free.  He's going to want WAY too much money and I think he's overrated.

Will Barnett not do the same if we draft him ?

I'd rather try for Sheard and sign Pep in a rotational role.

JPP will likely command money that I don't necessarily believe that his production warrants. I felt the same way about Hardy, though admittedly less so. But, I still was loath to pay Hardy. No way I'm paying JPP top dollar, and I don't think Getty will do it.
