KK wants 17 million a year?

Yea, that is pretty much what I am saying.

You pay the guys who are elite and fill the rest of the team with average to above average players.

This begs the question of "does KK fit into the elite, non expendable, class"?

He is 29, we drafted his replacement, we run a 4-3, the draft is deep at DT, he was not the dominant force he was a year ago and we have the ability to tag him... I have to say that he is not a must-sign player.

His is a position that can be handled by 2 "B" players. If he was a 25 year old A+, multi time probowler, I would sing a different tune. That is... if he was Aaron Donald.

But he is not.

If you go signing guys to max contracts because they are "your guys", then you will soon find yourself back in cap hell with no ability to retain your players, much less "shop intelligently " in FA.

And when that happens, the exact same people on here calling for DG to be fired for not spending money will be calling for him to be fired for not having any left.

The successful teams let player, who have priced themselves out, walk and keep long-tenured front offices. If you are watching the AFC championship game right now... you can see two of them.

Nope, Butler has show that he wasn't even worth a first round pick, our run defense would be horrendous if KK left & pretty much make Luke useless with OL getting to 2nd level.

DG & KK will reach a deal, Cap is going up and we will free up more cap space by getting younger on offense via Draft.

If the link is believed to be true, KK wants 17 million and we say we won't go above 15. If we are within 2 million back load it or have roster bonuses in it to give him the money he wants in a total deal. As long as you don't give him too big of a signing bonus  or guaranteed money it doesn't matter what the overall number is if you don't pay it all to him. Or you franchise him for 13 and change.

Tag price for a DT in 2016 was $13.6M. Up $2.5M from 2015.

There's no way tag is gonna be "$13 and change."

First of all, solid arguement with the "nope". Hard to argue with.

Second of all, saying that Vernon Butler has "already proven that he wasn't worth a 1st round pick", shows me exactly who Im dealing with.

There is a saying... "don't argue with idiots. They will drag you to their level and then beat you with experience "

So, Kudos... you win. Let us all know what our next moves will be, once you've decided.

Why in the FUG should he pay that? What the hell has KK done? Has he even come close to CONSISTENTLY eclipsing Ndomokong Suh type numbers year in and year out? NO!!!!!

First, calm down. Second, what do you mean what has KK done? KK has been a top 5 DT for the past 2 years. One of the top DT's when it comes to applying pressure the past 2 years. He's shown on the field he is a top 5 talent at his position. He deserves to get paid top 5 DT money. Seattle has pretty much been able to extend all of their top defensive talent, pretty much locking up their vaunted secondary, making them all pretty wealthy. There's no reason why we can't do that with our defensive line.

We have the most spending money in the NFL. Use it.

You might want to actually do some research before you throw things like that out.  We have money to spend but that is absolutely false.

Dude...

You go out there and say if DG lets Norman walk and then KK walk he should be fired?

Same GM that has gotten us to 3/4 NFC South titles and done so while repairing the "cap hell"

Have some perspective, man. DG has earned it and, thank god, does not have to listen to fans like you or I.

Perspectives like yours are what makes for teams like the Brown's... just fire GMs and coaches whenever they have a down year or 2.

The only thing keeping us from being the Browns is Cam fuging Newton.

What exactly did people expect?  Good players expect to get paid as much as the last good player that signed.  With the cap going up each season they usually ask for a little more.

I expect the same out of Turner when it comes time to negotiate.  Are people going to think it is crazy to pay him $10m a year?

Top 4-3 DTs:

Suh $19m, Cox $17, and Jackson $14m.

People get all worked up over this.  He has every right to ask for $17m.  The team has every right to not pay it.  The team can offer what every they feel is fair.  He doesn't have to take it.  He can always wait until he is a free agent, which would be next year if the team decides to tag him.

According to the link he wants $17m

For the sake of discussion lets assume the team wants to pay $14-$15m.

They agree somewhere between those two numbers or they tag him.  If he waits until he is a free agent that is probably his best opportunity to get maximum money, since multiple teams can bid on him.

If he takes a little less to sign now I don't think of it as a "hometown discount" its more of a "let me take my money now just incase I get hurt during the season".  Basically you trade a little bit of the overall money to get a deal done a year earlier.

2 things the team has to decide:

Is he a top 3 player at his position?  If yes then he deserves top 3 money.

Even if he deserves it  that doesn't mean the team has to pay it.  Every team values certain positions more then others and also every team can decide how they want to allocate their resources.

Well the justification is that Norman's tag was rescinded for exactly that reason. That money has to go to someone.

Having the ability to spend on there own, is what they want, actually spending the money is irrelevant.

I want to believe they will spend the money in a splash-esque manor but they will sign mid-low level FAs and draft defense.

until I witness them do otherwise, I will expect the same.
