Sadly we will lose an outstanding back up and I wish him success.

That got me to thinking.  You really have to be up on who's on what other teams roster.   I can say I am pretty up to speed on our roster but I could not name many on any other rosters.

Are there potential free agents from other teams that fall into the same situation as Klein? Been a good back-up for 4 years and now ready to start?

I'm sure there are a few hidden gems out there.  Lucky for us G-man knows all 31 other rosters almost as well as our own.

Yeah, Klein put in his time, but was stuck behind Luke, can't blame him for wanting to go spread his wings and earn more money.  While we do need quality behind Luke, Klein is more expensive than Mayo, who is under a rookie contract.

You hate to see us lose such good depth but I completely understand.   You didn't work your ass off to get to the NFL to say you played behind the Great Linebacker Luke Kuechly or Thomas Davis.  You want to make your own mark.  I just pray he doesn't go to a fellow NFC South team.

Diving into the FA market just to dive in is stupid.  Sometimes teams let players walk because they want too much money.  Other times it is because they aren't worth the money they want.   We, especially under DG, have done much better with the 2nd tier Free Agent than the big name.  Teams weren't knocking down the doors for Mitchell, Ginn and Coleman but we brought them in and they excelled in our system.  Mitchell really cashed in on us.  I wish we could have kept him but it shows our FA system is the way to go.   Smart and frugal with a well thought out big splash when needed.

I think next week, we'll make our first big splash but I also think we will address other needs through the scrap heap as some like to call it.  DG likes to go into the draft with every position of need already addressed through FA.   Whether it is bringing in competition or someone who we expect to start.   I would bet we will get one of those guys we all say "Who?" than listen to the staff and know we have the next really good player for a good price.

When you typed this it reminded me of a an episode of America's Game featuring the 1973 dolphins.

 Miami probably had the best O-Line in football from 1971-1974. All 5 starters from that era were either cut or traded by another team before they ended up with the Dolphins. They're discussed at the 16:00-21:00 mark just in case you're interested.

if we don't address MLB in free agency - and Klein signs somewhere else - we shud get at least a 5th round comp pick next year.. which makes me believe Getts wont address MLB in FA.. he covets those comp picks, you know.. that's why he let us flounder at the CB position in the beginning of the season - so we could get the 3rd rounder in this year's draft..
