How Would You Feel About John Ross at #8?

Byrd has never been anything more than an athlete. Only 1265 yards receiving in four years at SC. Best season was 585 yards. Barely hit 300 yards as a senior.

Great athlete, not much of a football player. If you couldn't make the Panthers' active roster as a WR these pst two seasons, you might just not be an NFL caliber WR.

Intriguing player but I think there will be better prospets at 8. However, I like that the Panthers are already doing their homework on him. If Fournette and Solomon Thomas are off the board then I think OJ Howard and Ross are the best available

If he somehow stays healthy after all those injuries , then it's s great pick. Deep enough RB class we can get a quality one like Kamara , Wayne Gallman , Elijah Hood , or Jamaal Williams in later rounds . Or maybe the panthers could go after Latavius Murray in free agency .

I like Byrd too but coaches won't play him

At this point, I think that it's safe to assume that Byrd (nor Brown or Bersin) is not dynamic enough to meet the expectations that the coaches want in a starter for the slot. And, they may just be right. Thus far, these receivers---none of them, really---haven't really shown the ability to be dynamic route runners, or have great playing speed, fluidity, and change of pace in their route running to create consistent separation or rack up YAC. Of course there is Shula, but I can't put it all on him.

Kamara is very unlikely to slip out of the 1st now.

One thing Ross could do is be a better version of Ted Ginn Jr. Ross could force teams to go one on one against KB or Funch in 3 WR sets. Could be a nightmare offense for other teams if paired with a good young RB in round 2. Team ignores offense a lot though so I suspect it will not be two straight rounds of offense to start the draft this year.

There are scenarios out there where its a great idea.

If Garrett, Fournette, and the Safeties are gone, it suddenly becomes an enticing option unless you want to overdraft an OT or DE. Allen is a strong prospect but playing position hockey in the Top 10 is certainly bitter.

People who think he's a 2nd round pick are living in their Walterfootball December mock drafts. He's been a legitimate 1st round player for a long time and today only pushes his stock up that much farther.

Kamara has a lot of appeal to me.  I enjoyed watching him in college, and he looks like he could be a steal in the pros...  but, i think he would be gone before our 2nd pick.  I admittedly like Hood because I saw a lot of him - but I also saw a lot of these other top RBs and to me he is very comparable...  because, as you said, that speaks to how deep this RB class is that you could justify passing on a top 10 RB because you feel you can get better value in the mid-rounds.

Perhaps. I think we should all remember though that it wasn't that long ago that RBs weren't being taken in the first at all. Is Kamara really that type of a talent that some team will snag him in the first? I don't know. He reportedly knocked it out of the park during the interviews though. Definitely a name to watch.

But getting back to receivers, I still have my eye on Taywan Taylor, and now Chris Godwin.

    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
