Future firsts were used to trade up for both Everette Brown and Jeff Otah.

A future second - that turned out to be the first pick of the round - was traded for Armanti Edwards.

Word was that teams knew Marty would give up future firsts and tried to pry one out of him when he wanted Clausen.  For once, Hurney didn't bite.

That'd actually be a happy ending, but unfortunately we still ended up with Clausen.

I knew there was another guy. Otah. Would have remembered if my manager wasn't eyeballing me and had to put my phone up

Not if either of the other two were still on board.

With them gone...you'd probably still have to talk me into it.  I'd want to see who's there at other positions.

see... i thought Ramczyk was gonna go in the early teens. at least, thats what i'd heard. are you saying its possible that none of the top OTs are taken in the first round?

That's basically equivalent to trading up for Jimmy Clausen.

And I'd like Myles Garrett at 8 please......

I'll put it this way, we have 2 good guards right now and potentially a serviceable or better RT in Williams. All 3 are due contracts very very soon. Much like Butler last year, Cam @ 40 gives you the chance to:

A) save money is someone wants too much $

B) save cap at a position else where (like long tern S, DE, and paying a WR...) regardless of deals other 3 want

C) Young, so could flip someone later between Williams, Robinson, and Norwell if the starters all play well.

Onto vs Ram and Bolles:

3 year starter in D1 vs 1 for I believe both the other guys.I know you like guys that have long track records at OT over one hit wonders. Its not 4 years, but 3 > 1.

Much younger 21.9 years at the start of NFL vs 25.3 for Bolles (who played 1 year at D1). Remember Danny Watkins?

Right there with both as a RT prospect. I will give you the others currently better to start at LT but to previous point less physical mature so room to grow. I can grant you that him still learning the position is not a positive, and comparators further along (in Ramczyk's case no doubt, not so sure Bolles is that much further along).

Matched up with older guys most of the time. Bolles was old for college, and that's a knock on him IMO (see Watkins). He SHOULD dominate physically guys 3+ years younger than him.

Mauler that could move inside. Not sure others would work as well inside.

Cam likely makes the switch to RT vs staying at LT (which with Kalil here we need more). If we are talking 40 vs 8 (Ram is not lasting till 40, Bolles unlikely)  I can handle this better. Even if we traded into 20s for can, I'd take it if he is who I believe he can become. It be a risk for a RT, but an elite RT at 24, I'm down for 3 to 5 years at a cheap cap cost.

Let's not pretend Bolles didn't have his share of troubles off the field, or does his words that he learned clear him of future issues, but Cam still a risk?

Team captain as a true Junior last year? So its not like he didn't have some respect in lockroom from players and couches.

Longer arms than either to keep defenders off him (minor but noteworthy). Unlike say Lamp who is a real risk outside, but he isn't in the picture for us (even if I do love what he brings).

Look I've never been sold on Robinson at LT. Sold he is the young Jeff Otah at RT. We've both been here long enough to remember what a force healthy Otah was at RT. Robinson has the marking of that type of player at RT. I know most the kids still hate on Otah as fat overweight guy who didnt give a rip in the end, but if you can find another that has a better drive to stay in peak form version of Otah, sign me up at 40 and yes I'd move back into 1st for that. Otah and Bridges on the right side were the best pair we've had dare I say ever. Really do think we can get that back with Robinson over there at RT. Fears: Otah who washes out or paying for Evan Mathis roller coaster of the development phase while someone gets later gets the pro bowl finished product.

Ramczyk I like as a day one starter at OT, either side, and a big step above Robinson right now. Bolles is a risk IMO. Love the 1 year of tape, but in baseball terms, he was old for the level of competition so results as expected. Contrast that to Robinson who was young for the level (true freshman at LT for 3 years) and had great games and poor games which are expected for guys young for their level of competition.
