Ginn says Drew Brees can "extend his career"

Gee, I wonder how this will go over...

Ginn: Drew Brees is the kind of quarterback that can extend my career

Ginn said the three-year, $11 million contract he signed with the Saints at the outset of free agency was obviously a big part of his decision to go there, but another big part was that he’ll have a quarterback he thinks he can thrive with.

“That’s why it was very important to find a home like I found, because Drew Brees is the type of guy that can extend your career, man, and that’s what it’s all about,” Ginn said, via ESPN.

Ginn believes he and the Saints have a good understanding of how he’ll fit into their offense.

“They have a pretty good sight of how they want to use me, and just over the years they’ve learned how to use different receivers to bring out their talent,” Ginn said. “I pretty much knew what type of organization they was, without even being in their building. And I already knew that I was gonna be able to come down and be a factor for ‘em. And that’s all I want to be, is be a factor. I don’t have to be the superstar. I don’t have to be the guy that catches every pass on every down.”

Cam extended his career and got him two good contracts. The guy had been written off as a WR before initially coming to Carolina.

Am I the only one who doesn't think Ginn is a great fit for N.O.? I mean, we had the perfect offense and the perfect QB for Ginn to shine. We had an OC who loves downfield routes and a QB with a huge arm. N.O. has neither.

Just now, Mr. Scot said:

One thing I don't think anyone can deny.

Sean Payton understands route concepts and route coordination infinitely better than Mike Shula.

Payton's play designs are brilliant.

Which is irrelevant if the receiver drops the pass anyways.

I don't think this is a shot at Cam.

Ginn is right looking at it from the perspective of going to a team like the Cards, Lions, or any other team without a HOF-caliber QB.

It may not be.

But I have little doubt some will take it as one.

Touche'

With Brees at QB and Payton calling the plays, I'd expect more attempts to get Ginn the ball short in space and let him run with it.

Will it work? We'll see.

Ginn comes across as a guy that is simply trying to ''get his'' and I can't blame him. I think his role with the Saints will play out much like the rest of his career with MIA, SF, and ARI.

They will draft receivers, to play behind Michael Thomas, and early on it will be more important to develop the future than it will be worth it to play a 32 year old drop prone deep threat.

I liked Ted with us, but we all know what he is, just like I'd wager the staff knows what he is. He's a big play, or a drop waiting to happen, his return ability has diminished; and I won't be surprised once he's relegated to the 4th/5th spot and essentially just the return guy.

New Orleans is looking at another sub .500 season, enjoy it Mr. GInn.

    • I probably would have become a casual Hornets fan if Cooper ended up there, but the NBA just solidified my apathy for its product. Hornets also got shafted when Lakers got cold feet on the Mark Williams trade. NBA is corrupt and that alien-headed Silver is the kingpin.
    • Most analysts from what I've seen are projecting next year's cap as closer to $298M but as high as in the low 300s. We saw a $24M increase this season, $31M increase last season, and $16M prior to that. There's also the inevitable cap casualties... A'Shawn Robinson being cut saves the team $8.5M. Damien Lewis would save $9M. BB3, Jewell, PJ2 all would save $5M each. Tremble and Mike Jackson could save $4M each. It wouldn't surprise me to see the team make a few moves that end up giving them closer to $50M in cap space to start 2026. I'm less worried about next year's cap space due to the upcoming UFAs for the team: TMo, AT, Tuttle, Wonnum, Nijman, Mays, Corbett, BC, Dowdle, Rozeboom, Martin, Rhattigan, Jansen, Scott... the only FAs I'm seeing on Spotrac outside of TMo that are must keeps are ERFAs Coker + Demani (so long as TMo's knee is fine, of course). 2027 on the other hand is going to be the offseason for Bryce's bonus option with Icky being the most significant UFA. PJ2, A'Shawn, Josey, MJackson, Tremble, Dalton, DJ Johnson, Zavala, and Bartholomew are the only other current FAs then. I'm of the opinion that they are all in on next season and if it doesn't go well, it's being blown up and starting from scratch. They're currently estimated to have $130M in free cap space in 2027.
