NFL Network Total Access - Which team would instantly go to the Super Bowl if they trade for Sherman

Tomlinson, Heath Evans and fan vote picked among the Panthers, Cowboys and the team that blew a 25 point lead in the Super Bowl. The two players chose the Panthers.  Fans voted the 25pters, followed by Cowboys and us last.

Tomlinson specifically said Sherman is similar to Norman and we went with Norman so he's picking us, and Evans said the other two teams' defense aren't a player away from being great but our defense would be back to elite with Sherman.

I want to believe them. Only flaw is our offense doesn't seem prepared to perform like it did in 2015...

Also the Falcons don't NEED Sherman they have two good corners already, and just picked up D. Poe...so that's really a no-brainer that if they got Sherman they'd be an elite Defense.

It's all about the OL. We had a perfect storm along the OL last season. We had two guys on the OL who could NOT get hurt - Oher and Kalil. They both got hurt. Oher was probably at most our 6th or 7th best offensive player, but he was probably the 2nd or 3rd most critical player on the offense when you looked at our depth chart - behind only Cam and possibly Olsen. Him getting hurt didn't just massively downgrade the LT position, it also greatly impacted OL continuity which is vital because it forced us to move our RT over to LT and replace a guy at that position too. We've made some moves on the OL and the offseason isn't over yet. Surely we won't have as bad of luck there again next year.

Sure, the O-line was a problem to be sure, but there has to be completeness in our resolution to improve. The fact is that the O-line was middle of the pack. The defensive backfield was...not.

The O-line is still a little suspect in that we now have two tackles with some injury concerns, but the secondary could use some more experience to settle fan's minds about our cornerback situation. They seemed to be gelling a little bit, but that could have been a mirage.

the 25 point lead meme has done got old. It's not like our team did any better in their outing.

Actually, we did.

Consider these golden facts:

-The Falcons and Broncos Superbowl was won by the Broncos by a score of 34-19; a 15 point differential. The game was well known for the Falcons sloppy - and horrid - performance.

-The Panthers and Broncos Superbowl had a score of 24-10; 14 point differential. Once again, game known for the Panthers sloppy performance.

14<15. Panthers had a less point differential than Falcons in their catastrophic performances. Panthers held a closer score longer than the Falcons as well.

-The Panthers and Patriots game was lost thanks to a lead blow by the leg of Kasay. The score differential was 3.

-The Falcons blew a freaking 25 point lead against the Patriots; total point differential: 6.

3<6. Whatever the Panthers did in any Superbowl>blowing a 25 point lead.

Doesn't matter how you spin it. Falcons have had worse losses than us by a largeshot.

Which all means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Ultimately both teams lost their Superbowl opportunities.

Despite every Panther fan hoping like hell that the Falcons Superbowl loss will have a lasting affect....reality says their offense hasn't lost anything, and their defense is getting better.

I don't expect them to have a losing season.

Their offense did lose something: their hotshot OC.

Could Richard Sherman be the Charles Haley of the 80s (For you youngsters Haley bounced back and forth to 5 Lombardis)? I don't think so. But entertaining the trade due to the cap dollar compensation owed Sherman, he's worth no more than our two 2d round picks & a JAG player

Corrected.

    • That's also in an era when DBs could press for 10 yards, Qbs could be hit, QBs could have players land on them, incidental contact could be made with the head etc. You can't compare bryce to players like this. What you can do is say who's done less over their first 30 starts and had more resources dedicated to them and at that point you're looking at like Joey Harrington.  At least with Joey there weren't morons in the fan base falling over themselves to compare him to players from the first year of the NFL merger.
    • Brees had a pro bowl year in year 3. Phillip Rivers was drafted anyways and Brees went off for two more years before his shoulder was completely torn up in the last game of the 2006 season.
    • The last time this franchise was in this much despair pre Tepper, the rumors of the banner flyover were met by the front office. They quickly worked with the disgruntled fans to quell any potential negative event occurring at the Stadium or TV. The real question is do we even have enough fans that care to get together behind a movement like this again or is our fan base too far gone that we dont care to revolt like this? Personally, I still go to games each year no matter how terrible it is, but it has went from something I spent all week looking forward to almost as enjoyable as yearly physical. We can count the blunders this franchise has made in keeping Head Coaches, General Managers and players too long. (Rivera,Rhule, Hurney, Fitterrer). Team wise we've missed out on Herbert, we didnt trade Burns for 2 1st round picks, we reached by taking Bryce who would have most likely been were we were going to draft anyway, and extended players who constantly underperformed like Ian Thomas. Even when we are gifted a chance like 2 first for Burns that we shouldnt have paid premium, we fumbled a chance to really jump start the franchise. So this is more to everyone as a whole. How much of your Soul for this team is left? Is it still there that if there was a glimmer of hope, you'd come right back or has the futility of this team negated your love for football completely?
