I guarantee if Allen ran a 4.8 40 none of y'all would be complaining. Before the combine it was considered a Star-like longshot of Allen dropping to us. Now everyone acts like they would hate the pick. I would be thrilled if we got Allen as he has been arguably one of the top 3 players in college the last 2 years.

I still wouldn't want him

If you truly think Allen is one of the best players in the draft, if not the best player (looking at you, Gooby), and you'd be upset if the Panthers took him, you're insane.

It would be like the Jets picking dude from USC a few Drafts ago.  If it happens, and Fournette isn't there.  I'm okay with it.

Id rather us go offense, but if someone is going to post the opinion that they think Allen is the best player in the draft, it's crazy for them not to want to draft him

I love how just the possibility of this makes you think the front office has made mistakes.

Try reading better. I didn't say the front office made a mistake. I said if they do indeed take Allen it would be saying butler was a mistake. You don't take yet another first round, much less top ten, DT if you think butler is the answer to replace short.

Nope. 40 yd dash has nothing to do with burst. I don't care what he did at the combine. Combine is just supplementary data. I watched a bunch of his games and he would be a DT for us, not DE. I've disliked the notion of taking Allen from the very beginning. If we hadn't taken Butler last year I'd be more open if it's looking unlikely we'll resign short.

Allen may very well be the best player in the draft but at some point you have to realize that there are other needs on this team. I hope they don't plan on picking this high again anytime soon so now is the best opportunity to draft another stud for the offensive side of the ball. As we saw this past season, Cam can't keep carrying this offense up and down the field with. Its time to take a legit playmaker to complement Cam and make the offense better as a whole. Not only helps Cam, but create opportunities for Benji, fun fun and Olsen. Taking yet another D-lineman that's not a sure fire pass rushing DE would be an exercise in stupidity.

I think Allen is a great prospect, but in terms of our needs he'd be he guy that would be about the least exciting. Then again, if the guy turns into Aaron Donald we wouldn't care about that need thing.

As for Mixon, NFL Network had an interterestkng quote from an anonymous NFL RB a coach that made sense. He essentially said that if you're willing to draft Mixon in the 7th you might as well be willing to draft him in the 1st. You're going to get the same scrutiny and reaction to the pick either way.

But it's not about the scrutiny. It's about using a first round pick on a guy with character issues that could end up out of the league if he keeps screwing up. See Josh Gordon, Aaron Hernandez, Greg Hardy, Ray Rice as examples of guys that can't find their way on the field despite having plenty of years left physically.

I mean he could, or he could end up like Dez Bryant, dude from Kansas City, and many others that have been caught with drugs, DV (even though Mixon's isn't technically DV), and other issues that have panned out.  Hell, Aldon Smith is about to get another shot.  I mean, didn't Randy Moss have issues too?  I think that worked out well for him.

Also, Josh Gordon is looking for another team currently.  So, he could still pan out as well.

We are above that here in Carolina remember! Being a mediocre franchise is ok as long as we can fall back on our morals!

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
