Damn that was distasteful to say, but I like his 7-round mock.

http://www.espn.com/blog/carolina-panthers/post/_/id/25249/what-if-panthers-first-pick-comes-down-to-o-j-howard-and-christian-mccaffrey

"

Round 1, No. 8

O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama. Howard gets the nod because he’s the best of a special class at this position, and the Panthers won’t be able to get him or Njoku in the second round. They still can get a special running back in the second or third round. Howard also is the best player on the board at No. 8, and Gettleman’s favorite phrase after "I don’t discuss contracts" is "I’ll take the best player available." That Howard gives the Panthers the ability to run a two-TE offense with two legitimate receiving threats putting him opposite Pro Bowler Greg Olsen also makes sense because this takes pressure off quarterback Cam Newton. You can argue McCaffrey gives the Panthers the flexibility to move him from the backfield to the slot, also a need. But with Howard you can move him or Olsen into the slot and create mismatches against smaller nickelbacks. And don’t forget Olsen is 32 and there’s really nobody on the roster who can fill his shoes should he get hurt. Howard could.

Round 2, No. 40

Alvin Kamara, RB, Tennessee. Call him McCaffrey-Lite. The 5-foot-10, 214-pound Kamara doesn’t have the overall impressive stats that McCaffrey has, but like his counterpart from Stanford, he’s a dual threat as a runner and receiver. He caught 74 passes for 683 yards and seven touchdowns over the past two seasons. McCaffrey had 82 catches and eight touchdowns during that span, so that’s a wash. Kamara also rushed for 16 touchdowns the past two seasons, making him a touchdown maker. Outside of big men that he calls “Hog Mollies,’’ Gettleman likes touchdown makers.

Round 2, No. 64

DeMarcus Walker, DE, Florida State.Carolina needs a player to develop as a long-term replacement for Julius Peppers and Charles Johnson. Walker could be that guy. At 6-foot-4 and 280 pounds, Walker knows how to get to the quarterback. He had 16 sacks this past season and has 25 over the past two. He also has the size to stand up well against the run. Some have him projected as a late first-round pick, so this could be a steal.

Round 3, No. 98

Chris Godwin, WR, Penn State. Carolina is looking for a slot receiver, and Godwin fits the bill. He has speed (4.42 in the 40) and size (6-foot-1, 209). Check out what he did in the Rose Bowl (nine catches, 187 yards, two touchdowns) against Southern Cal if you question whether he can be productive. He had 59 catches for 11 touchdowns this past season after catching 69 passes for 1,101 yards and five downs the year before."

(I like the other picks as well, but I'll leave the rest for you to click through.)

I'll never get to this day why Kamara is so overrated.

Calling him "McCaffrey lite" is insulting McCaffrey himself. He's anything but that with his terrible vision and decision making. McCaffrey actually utilizes patience and vision to gain 4-6 yards inside while Kamara would just bounce to the outside to get stuffed by a safety for a loss in a situation like that.

Otherwise not too bad of a mock. I still don't like OJ Howard that early with the depth of talent and likeability of better talent being available to us, but I guess you could argue if Hooker, Thomas, Fournette, Adams, and Garrett are all off the board, he could be the pick alongside McCaffrey.

Not a fan of any except OJ and that's the worst case scenario for our 1st imo.

that said, fug D.Newton right in the mouth.

I like the Howard, Godwin, Jones, and Davenport picks a LOT.

I can live with the Kamara and Walker picks.

Dobbs I think is a forward-looking decent developmental pick as a guy who showed well at the combine.

The last pick, TDs cousin? Never heard of him.

I am going to repeat this for those that missed it: Godwin can be as good as any receiver in this draft. If we can get him in round 3, we should praise the football gods.

As for this mock, it could be better (like most), but I'd approve if this became reality.

It still sucks because I know he just threw darts at a wall of names and picked what hit. Somehow it came out to make sense somewhat.

I really don't get why Kamara is considered a 2nd or 3rd round guy. He wasn't very productive and didn't seem special when he actually touched the ball at Tenn
