With 13 days until the draft it's looking like we might have to decide between Howard or McCaffrey @8. We know Gettleman will take the best player available. Assuming Dave believes these two are the best available, who is the better player?

I prefer OJ but understand the logic of both. Both would aid in not one but two areas of need  (OJ Another receiving playmaker/blocking.....Mac Slot receiver/running back). Either way I have confidence in whoever we decide to roll with in the first. Outside of Otah (injuries) and Butler (jury still out) I haven't been disappointed in any of our first round draft picks lately at all.

McCaffrey. I love Howard's potential, but one thing that people tend to forget is that it usually takes TEs a couple years to develop into great players. We have the chance to win a Super Bowl now, and I'd rather not waste the pick on a player who needs time to develop rather than someone who could get at least 1,500 all-purpose yards for us starting immediately.

Can you approximate Howard's skill later in the draft? How about McCaffrey,? Which one is more unique and fills needs. I want an offensive guy. I would be happy with each. The best tight end or second best back....    Tough choice......I would love either....

      Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.

      13. Carolina is coming. The Panthers are well thought of around the league. Their "process" seems sound. I think their off-season will be very interesting to keep an eye on. They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion.       Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
