Gettleman thinks McCaffrey is a three down player, not a three down back

That is the impression I got from being at the press conference. When asked if McCaffrey is a three down back, he didn't say yes. He said, well, he can run and he can catch, I guess that is three downs.

What I take from that is the Panthers see him as a 3rd down back and a slot player. Not someone they can rely on in 3rd and short situations.

A pitch or screen to Mcaffery on 3rd and short could be a possibility; as long as someone explains that to Shula.

Yeah I caught that as well. I think we like him a lot but not at 8.

doesn't a 3 down back generally imply being able to play on 3rd and long not 3rd and short?

A 3 down back generally implies that you can run between the tackles downs 1 and 2 and catch passes or pass protect out of the back field on third down.  Example, Adrian Peterson is not a 3 down back because his pass catching is sub par, which is why he subs out typically on passing downs.

I think McCaffrey could be the best RB by a fair margin in the draft IF he went to the right team.  Situation matters in terms of how successful players can be.

McCaffrey IMO would be a beast in NE's scheme or a team like that.  He seems like an odd fit here.  Not sure we are built to get the fullest out of him.

    • The Entitlement Paradox: When Winning Isn't Enough for Panther fans.    Just the other season(s) we were praying for wins by any means. Brought in every run of the mill QB you could think of.  We know all sides of the ball was bad like egregious bad. However some how we have won 5 games and TOXIC ENTITLEMENT has emerged.    We are a team that has to take wins by anymeans nothing has changed. Keep pounding means it aint gonna be perfect!!    Some panther fans have now developed a toxic entitlement where even victories feel insufficient, demanding flawless performance, or perfection, which stems from historical success in which we dont have any lol. This mindset poisons communities by fostering relentless criticism, harassment, and ingratitude that undermine team morale and alienate casual supporters. For the new Carolina Panthers, this could manifest as fans booing Bryce Young after gritty wins for low passing yards despite low turnovers, pressuring tepper into premature changes mid-rebuild, or driving away talent through online abuse!! eroding the positive momentum from their recent 4-game streak has brought us. Trust and believe the players do see your toxicity.    Anyways here are some positive stats.      Most Accurate QB on... 20+ Yard Throws 1. Drake Maye (79.2%) 2. Sam Darnold (79.2%) 3. Bryce Young (75.0%) 10-19 Yard Throws 1. Jaxson Dart (88.0%) 2. Jayden Daniels (82.9%) 3. Drake Maye (80.7%) 0-9 Yard Throws 1. Drake Maye (92.9%) 2. Spencer Rattler (92.6%) 3. Bryce Young (91.7%) @FantasyPtsData
    • Proper stud that would look even better if they could upgrade Scott. And get a resemblance of pressure on the QB
