Safety Situation

SS is def a need moving forward.  MA will be solid this year and give us the option of holding off on that position for at least another year.

Im looking over the roster up and down and I just can't find the weakness.  A few spots that will need attention next year and after, but I'll be damned we just have a really solid roster.

Now we need a great healthy camp, a fast start and a deep playoff run.

I understand your sentiment, but CP just ain't worth the $2.7M cap hit he brings along with him at any cost.
I would be perfectly fine with waiting another year and offering him a reasonable FA contract after the 2017 season (because I highly doubt the Jets pick up his 5th year) and seeing what he could do.
But at the cost of any kind of draft pick and that cap hit?  I don't see it.  And I wouldn't do it.

If we really want him there's a good chance now he gets cut and we can sign him without that contract. Trading for him after the Jets have tipped their hand by drafting 2 safeties would be foolish

With what's left on the board, might just wait for teams to cut some guys at safety if we're not comfortable. This late in the draft I think we could see WR (yep), TE, LB or DT (It's DG), CB, or I'm totally on board with the K idea.

Hopefully DG is in on Barnidge...even if we draft a Butt or Kittle.  Olsen, Barnidge, Butt as our 3 TEs? Yes plz.
Not as big on RB today since I think we're set with Stew, CMC, Fozzy.  CAP gets cut, and Samuel is a damn good emergency back option. FB would be nice, but maybe they give Rockhead a chance.

Funny I was thinking the same thing about Barnidge when I saw he got cut. Would be better than trying to groom a low round draft pick in terms of impact in the upcoming season.

I think everyone is overlooking Dean Marlowe. He made the roster last year but was on IR before season started. He could end up playing SS. He's a hard hitter and coaches like him.

completely forgot about Marlowe. i like him alot and he could well be our answer at SS. is one of our special teams guys too so theres plenty of value there

Our safety situation is alot more dire than I think many realize.

Just look at our current depth chart.

FS Kurt Coleman- great player

SS- Mike Adams- great play a bit old though

Tre Boston- ha he hasn't shown any promise flying by tackles he should be making.

Colin Jones- really? He has terrible instincts and though fast if your wrong and fast your still wrong

Dean Marlowe- he might be ok but if he can't be above Colin he's only good for special teams

Travelle Dixon- Who?!?!

LJ mcCray- again wtf is this

Brian Blechen- yeah he's listed as S but he's a fing linebacker wtf

Dezmand Southward- a falcons cast off

This list scares the crap outta me

I think Marlowe is a possibility, although it's tough to know what if any contribution he can make. Tre Boston better be a backup. Mike Adams and Kurt Coleman would be a definite upgrade over last year.

There will be safeties available after the draft too for cheap (Calvin Pryor, Jairus Byrd)

I know I personally don't like Boston and many here don't either but didn't he have a good pff grade last season?

Pryor for the 7th and/or a swap of 6th/7ths next year.

you make a trade to keep him off the market and only you deal with pryor for a 7th is a steal ... Pryor for a 3rd or 4th next year is a deal....

I don't think teams think he's worth $2.7M or they would have traded for him.

I totally get not being satisfied with our safety depth, but we're not paying that for a guy to be a backup.

I think Coleman and Adams are set at starters and Tre Boston is still going to be around like it or not. That's too much for your 3rd/4th safety.

Can sign him on a 1 year prove it deal for basically minimum which seems likely if they're interested
