Dickson makes it easy to sign Barnidge

•         Gary Barnidge signed a three year, $12.1 million contract extension with the Browns on December 11, 2015. Barnidge received a $3.25 million signing bonus

•         Barnidge made approximately $1.5 m in 2016 (not including the signing bonus)

•         So the Panthers can probably get Barnidge for $3m per year.

•          Cutting TE Ed Dickson would create $2m in cap room.

•         Cutting CAP would save $600k—as it appears now, he stands little chance of making the roster.

IF my assumption is correct and we sign Barnidge for $3m per season, we would upgrade the TE spot with a solid #2 veteran in his prime at a net cost of $500k per season.  If I am DG, I offer a $3m bonus and $2m per season for 3 seasons. That is a second bonus for GB and a base salary raise.

What about the SALARY CAP, you ask?:  (Note: This is not my area of expertise, but this is how i read it.  My expertise areas, should you ever need me, are toenail fungus and TV pop stars of 1970s sit coms)

•       DG usually keeps $4m or so for signing free agents during the season.

• ·         We would like to keep some $ to roll over to sign some big contracts next season; we would probably like to add FS depth.

No, latest news is that he "paused" his search for the Kentucky Derby and will visit the Jags and Panthers after.

Really hope we can coax him to come here.  Olsen and Barnidge as the 1/2 TE combo is so much better than Olsen/Dixon its not even funny.

Barnidge shouldn't be the deciding factor on whether or not we actually make an effort that looks like we give a damn at upgrading the TE2 spot. This should be a top offseason priority but we've been treating it like it's inconsequential to this point, which I'm inclined to believe may be more of an indictment on Rivera with his penchant for being overly loyal to mediocre players.
