We'd be awfully stupid to let Star leave

My god, yes we would! When you wanna thrive on a rotation then is stupid to let a key part of the rotation walk. We need to establish a viable and young DE rotation. DE's on a KK and Star level

This is an approach that only successful people would take! I'm all for keeping TD as long as the contract is written on the basis of reality! Some fans around here are willing to see him make 25mil a year for the next 25years while playing in a wheelchair. Ultimately his choice but he has the money and reputation to be extremely successful off the field! Rather see him enjoy 40 and beyond than being a "pillar of the locker room". Hope that he desires to coach

TD is wanting to retire here. Why are you and bigcat acting like his contact would cripple the franchise? If any player in the league would give a team a home team discount, it would be him. He bleeds black and blue

Oh, and you can be successful while retaining pieces like TD.

Where did you read that I'm for shuffling him off down the road? TD is a reasonable dude so I don't see any issue with him wanting to sign a reasonable retirement contract, however, if he wants top LB money at 35 then I fully support Dave moving on and TD getting that money somewhere else. Hope it doesn't come to that.

Hope we win the Super Bowl then TD retires and enters coaching for us

How much cap space are we expected to have next offseason?

Short Answer: Around 30 Million

Long Answer:

Depends on how much the cap increases. If it increases like it has been should be somewhere in the 175-182 range.

We have 162 committed on paper for 47 players next year.

Lets say say the league sets the 2018 cap at 178.  That would leave us 16 million plus about 16 million we are scheduled to roll over in to next year.  That would put us at 32 Million if we don't use any more space this year.

However, those figure's don't include any dead money we have for 2018. I know TD's contract has a voidable year next year (reason he's scheduled to be a free agent). Dead money from his deal next year will be 3.2 Million. Didn't see any but not certain there aren't other deals structured this way they may cause more dead money.

In 18 Ryan Kalil and Olsen have large cap numbers. If we extend them we can lower their cap hits a nice chunk.

If Oher isn't on the roster we would save another 5 Million in cap space in 18 as well. Lasty a decision will need to be made on Stewart too as we could save 3.75 next year if we release him after the season.

I don't see us rolling over 16mil next year but I also think we could end up making a shocking cut that will free up space. I would be shocked if it is less than 20mil

Davis should be back for another year. I see him retiring at about 36 (2 years from now). He won't cost us the farm.

Next is to keep Star. I know, I know, ALL THE DTs!!!!!! But with so many question marks at DE next year, we can't afford to split up the middle of the line too.

Next is Trai. Trai has the most upside between Norwell and he. And more position flexibility. I remember many pundits believing he would make a hell of a transition to the NFL at center. I love Norwell, but we can't overpay to keep 2 guards. Can't happen. Which is why drafting Moton this year was a great move for leverage and security.

TD will likely take a team friendly deal to help with signing other players, I don't expect him to sign until next offseason when we know the cap situation and he'll sign a deal for the most we can give him and not hurt other contracts.

I also don't think he's the type to just hang on, when he can't be the same player, he'll retire before we need to let him go.  So he'll sign some sort of deal that can more or less be year to year.

Most important to me is Star, we can always find guards if needed, and likely will still be able to keep Trai anyways.  But Star is key to how our defense is built, particularly for Luke, and a big year from him could put him out of our range to keep him, so I expect him to be locked up soon.

Trai and Star are musts. I'm prepared to lose Norwell, but would be happy if we were able to keep him. Not worried about TD. I feel more than likely he'll be resigned, and I don't think his contract will be crippling.

I don't PFF, but I actually think they graded Norwell higher than Turner last year....but I can't recall if they threw in his position switches in there or not.

My eyes tell me Trai is better, but maybe not by as much as we think....I think it comes down to money on which they keep...unless they figure out a way to keep both (not likely IMO).
