Oh, and fellas, if you find your weiner doesn't work like it used too... That is an indicator that heart disease is setting in. Take it seriously.

After about a six weeks  of eating whole food plant based I started waking up with steel boners like I was 18 again. The artery that feeds your shlong is only about as big as a coffee stirrer. When that  artery isn't working properly, it is giving you a heads up that bigger problems are on the way. (no pun intended) (I lied, pun intended)

coffee is good for you if you drink it black.

Lol you can keep your hot bean water. I love myself.

Jk some of the best coffee I ever had was fresh stuff in El Salvador a few years ago. Black with not even a grain of sugar or drop of cream and the stuff was amazing.

Im tryin to do a 100% raw food for a while to detox. Can i eat a poo ton of veggies and fruit without worrying about calories?

Try to stick more to the veggies than fruits (which have a higher sugar content). My wife lost 100 pounds on a mainly raw food diet. You can basically eat all you want. Keep it interesting with different veggies. The more colors, usually the better. You'll literally burn calories with all the chewing also. One thing you can try is to sprinkle a mixture of onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper on your salads (and I personally add a bit of powdered red or cayenne pepper for a kick). I also add in some pineapple tidbits, sliced apple, pears, or whatever fruit sometimes. Personally, raw cabbage is a favorite of mine. I use it as opposed to leafy greens in my salad sometimes. And try and stick to romaine lettuce as opposed to iceburg which basically has zero nutritional value.

The pounds will fall off of you, and I don't care how much you eat (or may be think you can eat because you'll get full).

I have to add some lean meat to my diet though (baked or grilled turkey, chicken or fish). Protein is super important to keep muscle, and---a lot of people don't know this---it will keep you looking younger. Some people eat beans/lentils, but I just can't do it because it's personally a pain to eat so many of them. That's my experience and preference though. It's just more efficient to eat lean meat because it packs more protein which your body needs. I don't eat meat some days though, but I found that I need some to not get "too small," which my fat brother-in-law said I already am. I'm almost 50 at 183 and 5'11¾.

I keep mental notes of my caloric intake and have been doing so for years, but I don't really worry about the raw veggies and fruits because they are generally super low in calories.

 The struggle is real!

6 months in on the whole food plant based eating.

Down 35 pounds. Off all prescription medications. Back pain is gone. Everything just works better thanks to the reversal of arteriosclerosis. My tubes are relaxing and opening up again, and blood is able to get where it needs to go. It is as simple as that.

Have not been sick this year. Not even allergies. I even stayed healthy at a time my whole household passed around stomach flu.

The point? If you have any chronic lingering medical issues, just try it out for a month. You could save a ton of cash , feel so.much better, and extend your life in the mean time.

I realize I catch flack for the posts, but after each one I make I get DM's from people wanting to improve their health. That makes it worth it. Anywho...

Congrats man! I've picked up a few pounds over the years. Especially since I work at home full time now. I tried a couple different diets. That juicing diet was a tough one. I'm really want to try this. I have back issues and I'm sure weight loss will help. Hell 35 lbs would work wonders for me

A lot of back pain is actually caused cardiovascular disease. Your discs don't have arteries, they get their nutrients from the tiny capillaries around them. If those get restricted, back pain soon follows.

Whole food plant based is the only diet that has been scientifically proven to not only halt cardiovascular disease , but also reverse it.

I might as well chime in here - I am in my upper 50 's and have been a pescatarian for about 20 years.  When my blood pressure was way too high and I saw Jeremys initial post about this I decided to give this idea a try.   I cut all the dairy from my diet for a couple weeks but it did not seem to help my bp and since my wife is big on cheese and does the cooking,  it made it very difficult to go to that extreme  - so I eat some dairy now but have greatly reduced the amount .  I have also cut way back on the eggs I eat ( fresh from my own chickens ) - I also cut back on  alcohol consumption to just a couple nights a week - the result is I have lost almost 20 pounds in about 3 months and am down to 175 lean muscular pounds at 6 feet tall - I haven't weighed this little since my freshman year in college - , my bp is still a bit higher than I want  but not really high enough for medication, and one of the benefits I was not even counting on is the great reduction in my aches and pains - lower back aches especially - I am very active, work out as well and at my age,  my back used to almost constantly bother me.  Now it is fairly rare that I get a twinge in my back for a day or two.  I never even associated my improving back pain with my diet till I just read this post from JI.

    • Some of you act like one can't learn from experience over time. Just because you may not know what you're doing in 2018 doesn't mean that you don't know what you're doing in 2025. Frankly, you grow from experience, and success and excellence gives first-time applicants the hand probably 99.999% of the time.
    • It's an interesting topic of conversation as sports evolves. I think ultimately it would lead to a number of small market franchises folding though. Especially in the NBA where there are so many bad teams that have been bad for years and years in some cases already. But as it stands I think athlete pay draft or no draft aside has reached a point where we can and should realistically ask should they make that much compared to the average person. Now college athletes is a different conversation but even that reaches a breaking point. But we could go down the rabbit hole on this even further into overall entertainment and talk about actors making absurd sums too. In the end I think in sports the powers that be won't allow these changes to even be considered because it opens the door for so many other variables. But who knows how long sports like football will realistically be around after people like us pass on. We're only just now learning about things like CTE which the league and the sport in general will only be able to run away from for so long. As far as the NBA goes my understanding is viewership has been steadily going down for a number of reasons but one crucial aspect is key players missing so many games. The NBA has to figure that out regardless. Especially when considering fans who pay to see these athletes compete in person. But hey I guess let's just try to appreciate what we've got while it still exists in this form eh?
    • I can't see a world where the money goes down, but maybe your lottery odds are now your contract numbers you can offer.  Thunder? You can offer Flagg 4 years, 20 million.  Hornets? You can offer Flagg 4 years, 80 million.  Some form of a system where the money is still there, but so is the freedom of choice (on top of bad teams getting *some* competitive advantage to signing them).
