Hurney Statement

Well the one thing with Gettleman I always had hope he would fire Rivera and get his Coach. Well now it looks like Rivera gets back the GM who helped bring him on. Nothing positive can be said for these developments.

From Panthers.com

"I never lost the connection with the organization," Hurney said. "I've gained a lot of perspective and have looked at things in different ways. I think I can help this team in a lot of areas. I think I've grown. And I feel I'm better prepared to come in this time and do a better job than I did over the 12 years I was general manager last time."

That doesn't sound like a guy content with an interim role. Tell me I'm wrong.

So a guy that has been supping himself talk on local radio stations now thinks he has what it takes. If anyone on any of the other teams thought he had it in him, would be my have landed at least a consultant deal by now?

But of course, a very old very rich guy that made some very good business decisions 50 years ago knows best...

Because he isn't good at it.

Haha, i see. Thats a fair point.

He wasn't the worst.  It would have been hard to find anyone at this point.  Hurney had two huge issues in my opinion.  He didn't do a good job at planning for the future. (Something he may be able to improve on and learn from). And he wasn't as good as Gettleman at replacing guys with low cost alternatives (Something thats probably much harder to improve in).

I think at this point of the year, he is somewhat limited in the amount of damage he can do.
