After TD and Olsen....Norwell should be Next

Recommended Posts

TD and Olsen should get done pretty quickly and I hope and pray Hurney doesn't go Jon Beason or Jonathan Stewart crazy on the deals.

I think after these two players.  Norwell needs to get done.  I would think if we offered him the same as Turner we could lock him up.

I believe it is critical to our future.  Kalil as great as he is, isn't going to last forever. Having Norwell and Turner locked up for the next 4 or 5 years will make the transition for a new center much easier than having a free agent.  Not to mention the comfort level Cam will have with these two.

I dont even think TD needs an extension

dude looked bad last year. And a very tape oriented, honest, tell it like it is GM thinks he has deteriorated. Which he has. Time to let the 35 year old linebacker play out his last year of his deal and have him walk

that is the smart thing to do. The emotional dumb thing to do is to extend him further repressing Shaqs playing time and making it harder to retain younger guys.

Seems like a lot of you guys are drinking the enotional, sentimental coolaid. Cant have it both ways. Cant dog on hurney but then turn around and say we should extend TD

we shouldnt. Period.

I would do Norwell first.  Olsen's already getting paid top 5 money, he just wants a top 5 contract and that's just a matter of extending him.  I wouldn't be surprised if they give him a couple of years on the end just so they can spread out his cap hit a little.

Once you get Norwell done, you have to look at what Star is going to command, and then you know how much you need to manage the cap through Olsen and what you can afford to pay Davis.

I wonder how Gettleman would have done it.  Regardless, I don't think Gano and his $4,000,000 hit makes it out of camp.

SMH.  In comparison to who? 100 + tackles , 3 picks, 4 PD's  3.5 sacks.  Who is that a bad year for?  Compared to the previous year he is off by a few sacks.. but the defense over all was worse, especially in the secondary and early in the year on the pass rush.  Why are people making $%$% up about TD just because he wants an extension?

He basically took almost 3 1/2 years off due to injury so he doesn't have the wear of someone who played the same amount of time.  Argue the length of the extension all you want, but don't make up poo about his play.  That's fugging stupid.

Norwell should get done before TD, and Greg still has 2 years left, he can wait til next season, no other team in the league gives in when people whine about wanting more money early...you signed the damn contract, now honor your end of it.

Do teams always honor the contract the end?

You people.... it's like you are ...  ugghhhh...

If the panthers want to do TD and Olsen a solid, just restructure and turn more into guaranteed bonus - maybe a small extension. This helps the player out because they are protected in case of injury or getting old and sucking and it helps the team out with cap because we can spread it out. Either way, unless their extensions are necessary for freeing up money to sign Norwell, the TD and Olsen contracts are not where my focus would be. They are both under contract. Focus on the young, dependable guy whose contract is about to expire. He is 100% going to make more money on the market... sign him now. Olsen and TD would not make more if they left when their contracts expire.

Edit: Also, consider that LT and Center are far from sure things at this point. Why create an extra hole on the line if you can avoid it?

    • I like what Freeling brings to the table all around. If he is willing to put in the work he has an opportunity to be one of the better Tackles in the league down the line. Hunter Brazzell and Hecht are all premium additions but development from our staff are the key to unlocking them. Hopefully Lee and Wheatley will provide much needed additional depth to our secondary. Beyond that it's important not to get too caught up in draft grades. Many drafts over the years that turned out to be really good were not fawned over with praise. While some that were ended up being historical duds. Panthers fans ought to know this as well as anyone. In conclusion...
    • Maybe a bit of a homer take but I can't give us a grade lower than A.   Freeling was arguably the best LT prospect in the draft.  His athletic ability is off the chart and at 6'7" that can move.  It was a no brainer pick.   Hunter's key word is Violence. Putting him next to Brown should scare an offensive coordinator. These two give Scourton and Phillips plenty of chances to get one on one opportunities. Brazzell, another tall receiver with sprinter speed.  Our WR room is filled with tall talented WR.  Brazzell is going to give us a WR that can take to roof off the defense.  Basically Jimmy Horn with size. W. Lee III has a nickname of the Blanket. (heard this on the Beleav podcast with J. Stewart)  What a great name.  A great value in the 5th round. Hecht A strong, fast and extremely smart center. Many had him listed as the best center in the draft.  He's most likely a starter sooner than later. Wheatley A good safety in round 5.  Someone who could see playing time.   Kuwatch  I love this pick.  At minimum he will be a key piece on special teams and with some good coaching he'll see some packages where he'll play.  His down piece is he doesn't stay up in the running game.  Good coaching will fix this.  He reminds me a bit of A.J. Klein.   All these picks were great value.  I believe everyone of them were graded higher than the pick we took them.   Dan Morgan is IMO doing a great job turning this team into a good team with great depth.
