Some Fantasy Analyst is predicting that CMC will have 53 receptions in 2017

On Twitter today, I noticed that some Fantasy analyst is predicting Christian McCaffrey to be near the top of the league in terms of receptions by a RB, predicting him to have 53 receptions in 2017.

As Josh Norris tweeted, that would TRULY be "evolution"

In fact, no single Panthers RB or FB has gotten anywhere close to that kind of total since 2011 (under Chudzinski) when Stew had 47 receptions.  Heck since 2012 no single Panthers RB/FB has exceeded 27 receptions.  Last season our entire RB/FB crew didn't even total 53 receptions.

In fact I think it would not be "evolution" but REVOLUTION if CMC totaled 53 receptions!

Here's a quick & dirty table I created to show Receptions by Panthers RBs & FBs by year since 2011:

What say you Huddlers.  Do you think there's hope CMC can meet or exceed J Stew's reception total in 2011?

With Samuel's development slowed I can see McC splitting slot snaps with Shep too so I could see him having even more than 53. We want him to have a huge workload this year but also try to keep Stew's role similar so the only path to that really is the receiving game. I don't do fantasy any more but if I did I'd be targeting McC in all PPR leagues.

No other RB on that list can run the full route tree like CMC. Think about that. He's a rookie who hasn't taken his first NFL snap yet and he is already a better route runner than all of those vets. That puts him in a whole different category.

You are selling Bell and Johnson extremely short. Both of those guys are in a class of their own when it comes to receiving out of the backfield.

I'm not saying they're not good. I'm saying they can't run the full route tree like a legitimate WR. CMC can.

If CMC gets 70+receptions this year, team won't lose more than 4 games. Its time to attack guys like Deion Jones, Stephone Anthony, Lavonte David, etc. Allowed those specific guys in the division to play downhill without the threat of having to covering anyone of note

Shula needs to show no mercy.

If a defense trots out three linebackers, throw it to CMC in the slot until they prove they can stop it. If a defense goes nickel, power run with Stew, CMC or Cam until they can stop it. Wash rinse and repeat, with some play action bombs to Samuel thrown in for good measure.

/madden strategy

Three and a half receptions a game is all it takes. I don't see this being a problem.

True, that really puts it in perspective and sounds doable...  I hadn't "done the math"...  But, I'm just thinking there are so many people to share the ball.  Greg, KB, Stew, CMC, other WRs..., Cam.  So, we shall see.
