Greg Cosell doubts Cam can change after 6 seasons

What's so hard about him being a multifaceted talent? He's had success being Cam. We don't need to reinvent the wheel in Carolina. Coaching just has to get him plays that best utilize his skill set, his weapons skill sets, spread the ball, and get that footwork down pat. He may not be a laser when it comes to accuracy but who is when your not getting chunk plays with your RBs/WRs on short routes ala Bradford/TB/etc.? Cam will be alright.

Cam's footwork is to far gone to fix at this point, Aaron Rodgers footwork is just as bad as Cam's so I'm not that worried about that. Also short throw accuracy isn't that easy to coach, especially with Cam's arm.

Guys like Favre and Marino had rifles similar to Cam, they were still throwing deep onto their last seasons.

I'm just saying, it's not like he can't, it's just not the type of offense Carolina runs. These taking heads should know that if they've watched ANY tape whatsoever instead of looking at stats alone. You know, the easier, lazier way of reporting lol!

What they don't understand is that Cam playing more like Brady and Brees isn't the best Cam Newton on the field.

Cam is 6'5. To piggy back off previous comments, yes is absolutely like Brett Favre. I think Cam has so much confidence in his own size, arm and running ability; that he believes he can sling the ball on 3rd and 14 for a first down every time. More often than not he does. I just think he sees the field as his bitch and that he can make the right play at any moment.

A candyass like Brees has to have the set up plays and dink and dunks because he's not Cam Newton.

If the offense can evolve a little more and now that we have some legit weapons with speed and shiftiness we should be just fine.

There is not a team in the NFL that converts on 3rd down more often than not and the Panthers were terrible last year on 3rd down conversions. Hate to say it but when it comes to 3rd down conversions, Brees is the best.

Touche. But all the same I think the point is to make Cam the best version of himself rather than adapt qualities of other QBs and offenses because they don't have his talents. He usually does make all the throws to win a game. Sure he can make some adjustments. But the offense itself needs to become less high stakes. I think CMC and Samuel will be a huge step toward that

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
    • You gonna make me post Stank before every game?  I kid, I kid.
