Saturday Preseason Games Thread

To recap some of yesterday's preseason threads:

  • Jameis Winston was money. Cameron Brate looked good. Mike Evans is still Mike Evans. Watch out for them
  • PANTHERS WATCH: The 49ers defense was okay. Their defensive line looks legit. Solomon Thomas and Reuben Foster were worth their picks. HOWEVER, their offense is a rotting pile of trash. No playmakers anywhere. Hoyer's trash. Even with Shanahan, nothing appears ready to salvage their pile of poo. Expect the Panthers defense to literally murder everyone.
  • Bleh.

And now, for today. Some headlines to look for:

  • Tennessee VS Jets: Corey Davis of TEN, and Jamal Adams of the JETS. Keep an eye on TEN's o-line, as that will be a test for us this upcoming week in preseason.
  • LA Rams vs Cowboys: Will Sammy Watkins play?
  • Cardinals VS Raiders: Derek Carr still firing away? Marshawn Lynch still got it?

Talk away if you're actually watching any of this.

Dont sleep on the 49ers Offense.

They have no reason to show a damn thing. If they truly are lacking in talemt, i sure as hell wouldnt be giving away an example of what ill be running, for an opposing team to shut it down. If my only advantage is a gameplan, i sure as hell wont expose it when the games dont count.

Preseason is to weed out the guys who cant do bssic poo. Thats literally it. If a guy cant do basic poo well then there is no reason keeping him around to try to exucute more complicated stuff

Anyone not conerned about facing a largely unkown nfl team hasn't been a panthers fan for very long.

Seems like we make backup QB's look like all pros.

In THIS era of Panther football, with an MVP QB entering year 7 at age 28 and superior in every other way to San Fran, losing this game would signify the need for a regime change-and would mean in a literal and symbolic sense JR would never himself see the Panthers win a ring.  That's how insanely unacceptable losing this game would be, NFL parity, road venue, and maddening Panther history be damned.  I've been a fan since the fall of '93 when our birth was announced and see no way we lose this game.

there's no Sunday thread. I don't really care though, im not interested in any of the 4 teams playing to care too much

We play the Lions, but I'm more interested in watching the deterioration of Seattle.  1) I hate them, and 2) reality still says they win the NFCW by default.

    • To all the analysts who said "Caps in 5", thank you for telling us their departure time.
    • We won't know the answer to this for a long time. Reality is, Caleb has been the consensus #1 in that draft for years. Bryce was a similar situation, but mostly the same. He was not the clear and obvious #1 that Caleb was, but most teams had Bryce at QB1. The Panthers were always going to be terrible Bryce's rookie year.  I don't think DJ Moore's presence would have changed anything about that offense, as our guards, center, and left tackle were getting demolished on nearly every snap. It's clear Caleb's dad was trying to do everything possible to ensure Caleb didn't end up in Chicago with Eberflus. It's hard to imagine that he wouldn't have done the same, but probably more publicly with our situation, considering Carolina is an easier target for the media than Chicago. We can all speculate, but it's impossible to tell who is going to have the better career on May 16, 2025. If either QB doesn't pan out, we have an easy answer. If both flame out, the bears clearly won the trade, but it wouldn't have really mattered anyway. We all know how we win the trade. Candidly, even if one of the other picks we gave up ends up being a hall of fame player, we don't know if the panthers would have taken that player anyway. All you can do is make the best decision you can in the moment with the information you have. I really like Bryce Young, and I'm glad he's a Carolina Panther.  The only way to win in the modern NFL is to have an absolute dude at QB. I personally am happy that our franchise recognizes this, as I remember times when they did not.
