Who is your surprise player who makes the team this year?

Agree but we're not cutting Young.  We are either keeping Young AND Armah as our H-back/fullback role or cutting Manhertz and using Armah as our 3rd TE.

I think Armah's main competition is Manhertz if you think about it.  Do they keep 3 TE's and 1 FB...or,

2 TE's, 1 FB and 1 TE/FB/HB/LB?

Some good names listed.

Damiere Byrd is an obvious choice, but that may not be too much of surprise to some anymore. The individuals who have mentioned Southward and Crume are also on to something as both have performed well (Southward against the Texans & Crume against the Titans).

The guy who mentioned Bryan Cox may also may be on to something. While not as visible against the Titans, Cox did have a stellar performance against the Texans where he had two QB hits and four QB hurries on ONLY 21 rushes. Cox also graded out as the best pass-rusher and best run-defender in the game against the Texans. Cox may give Wes Horton a run for his money.

Personally, I'm going with LG David Yankey. Yankey was hurt last week but if he can get back on the field, I can see him beating out Gino Gradkowski. While Gradkowski is more versatile, Yankey is the better player. Week one against the Texans, Yankey graded out as the best left guard in the NFL. Yankey did not allow a QB pressure on 15 QB snaps and had a remarkable 86.3 grade run blocking grade on 15 run block snaps. I can see the offensive line being Kalil, Silatolu (unfortunately), Norwell, Yankey, Kalil, Larsen, Turner, Scott, Williams, Moton.

Yankey wouldn't actually be that big of a surprise. He's solid! Lucas Ewing of USA Today has him in his roster projections also.

Good post, but you know what really stood out? Your correct spelling of Crume.

I saw "Crum" so much that  I was beginning to think that this would just continue to be a crummy type of thread.

Hahaha, hey it was a good topic.

I don't post much, but the topics that actually are set up for responses (like this one) are a breath of fresh air from the overreactionary threads we see all the time.

Alex Armah. I'm not backing off of him. When you're as raw as him and you're still making plays while barely even getting on the field, you're a keeper.

I echo this sentiment as well. I'm terrified how hard PS will be with the big cut coming all at once. Also surprise add to 53 would be another teams safety

    • Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.
    • 13. Carolina is coming. The Panthers are well thought of around the league. Their "process" seems sound. I think their off-season will be very interesting to keep an eye on. They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion. No one told me that.) https://x.com/lindsay_rhodes/status/2027212533417869499?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
